4/.This project, funded by TESF, worked with 21 pastoralists across 3 districts in Puntland to co-design sustainable alternatives to Xero.

3/.The burden falls heavily on women. As caregivers and workers, they face the double challenge of household survival and degraded ecosystems.

2/.Creating Xero often involves mass tree cutting. This deforestation fuels desertification, reduces rainfall, and intensifies drought cycles. ☀️🌳 Less rain → weaker pastures → rising livestock deaths → rural poverty.

1/.This research, co-produced by scientists & pastoralists, explored how livestock enclosures (Xero)—a deeply rooted practice—are impacting both the environment and livelihoods in Somalia. 🌱🌍 #ClimateJustice #Pastoralism.
