Yesterday, we hosted House and Senate staff for a tour of Fort Gibson Historic Site. We enjoyed discussing the important history we interpret at the site as well as what it takes to operate it on a daily basis.

#ThisDayInHistory On Aug. 19, 1958, members of the OKC NAACP Youth Council sat at the Katz Drug Store lunch counter in OKC & politely asked to be served. When denied service, they staged a peaceful sit-in for 3 days. It helped end segregation in public places across Oklahoma.

On Aug. 15, 1935, Wiley Post & Will Rogers died in a plane crash near Point Barrow, Alaska. Post had modified a Lockheed Orion for a long-distance flight. Shortly after takeoff, Post lost control of the aircraft, causing it to crash. #ThisDayInHistory

Today's memorial service for Gov. George Nigh was a wonderful tribute to a man who loved Oklahoma. We have a new pop up exhibit at the Oklahoma History Center about the man who left our state better than he found it.
