#mtbos I require my Alg1 Ss to do a rough draft of a problem BEFORE asking for help. Most Ss do a great job making an attempt but at least 1 or 2 in each class won’t try anything & claim that I “won’t help them,” turning into major drama. I’m frustrated. Help. #iteachmath

I think Alg1 should start with functions! (definition, notation, story graphs, domain and range, etc). Class is SO MUCH different now that we are out of reviewing equations/inequalities and doing accessible fun function things. Where do you start #alg1chat? #mtbos #iteachmath.

Hi #mtbos, I'd really love to teach my Ss to do some "mathy" doodling. Thinking about Vi Hart but a little simpler, something that a 9th grader could do on their own that is based in geometric shaped/repeating/fractal patterns. Anyone know of any resources for this? #iteachmath

A huge thank you to @JennSWhite for handing out Manifold puzzles at NCCTM last year. I love them! & now my Ss (secretly) love them. Half the class was folding away after their assessment today. It’s a perfect quiet hand-held puzzle to keep Ss engaged. #mtbos #iteachmath #alg1chat

I have figured out a way to teach literal eqs that I actually like! Ss calculate the length of rectangles with different perimeters & widths repeatedly. Then I substituted in variables P and w and we solved w/ variables. Then we did connect 4 from @MathByTheMt #iteachmath #mtbos
