I like to limit the number of hours I write per day so that when I’m not working, I can wonder. And ask questions and then get excited about the answers. #ARRAYNow

You ideally would be able to trust the follks who run the programs, the producers, agents you interact with to challenge you with the right questions. And people making great work do! 3/3 #ARRAYNow

That you would pay to do. So -- I do go to mentors every so often with specific questions or over lunch but I also counsel people not to wait for anything and or anyone and just make work, make work, make work. 2/3

It’s weird but I don’t have a lot of mentors coming to mind because I never liked to ask for help. And I ultimately don’t think it’s that easy for other people to guide you to success. Truth is, the filmmaking has to be something you would do no matter what. 1/3

@Topple @ARRAYNow @Topple How did you go about developing your directorial voice before the breakthrough? And what was the journey that lead to someone willing to take a risk on your vision? How early in your career did you find a champion mentor?#ARRAYNow

Then you start to see your dream actor and you weave that into their story and that leads me to plot. The characters will announce themselves and always know what they want. @ARRAYNow #ARRAYNow

The characters and the script are two pieces of the same puzzle. There is first the soul of a character, maybe you don’t even know their name. Maybe their name keeps changing every time you write a new scene for them. Until finally the words start to feel right.

I love this question! I see narratives around inherited trauma in so much great work right now. These storylines can be anything-flashbacks, time travel, connected transits. Memory, reality and the nature of truth are so in flux right now. cont... 1/2 #arraynow

Hi Jill and thank you for joining! How did you approach the theme of inherited trauma in Transparent? Especially the ways it was physicalized. @Topple #ARRAYNow

It’s hard for me to write from a place of thinking about pressure. I have to be free and channeling the characters without judgment. @ARRAYNow #arraynow

@Topple You've worked on a spectrum of groundbreaking projects that have told stories rarely seen on TV. Is there a unique pressure or feeling that comes with bringing those stories into the homes of so many people? #ARRAYNow
