Today was my 40th birthday, and I also accomplished something I wasn’t sure I could or would do… I graduated with my master’s degree from the University of Louisville. It was a good day.

If you are a college that is asking for the FAFSA by January 15, please email me, call me, LinkedIn me, and let’s chat. I mean this in all sincerity. What’s on the ground is far different than what any of us expected. Kids are counting on us. 💙

HS senior: “Basically, it’s on me to translate all of this admissions vocabulary that I’m not always sure about into Spanish for my mom. It’s kind of an extra admissions requirement.”

Imagine this: You have 70+ parents in a library on a Wednesday night with their kids to complete the FAFSA. More than half can’t move forward on it because there’s not a process for them that works, despite promises to the contrary. There’s no date to give them for a fix.

Sad to miss everyone at #NACAC this year. Here’s a few tips for a successful #NACAC: Wear comfortable shoes, drink water, get coffee not @ hotel, mingle in lobby bar after dinner, drink more water, stay out late, meet @TonySarda & @ end of sessions ask 1 question, no comments. ✌🏻

According to USNWR, I am the #1 ranked college admissions professional between the ages of 38-42 with astigmatism and born from Guatemalan immigrant parents on this flight. Time to update my LinkedIn.

Here’s an incomplete list of athletes with the same height and weight as Donald Trump who said he was 6’3 and 215 Pounds. A thread. 🧵 First up is quarterback Aaron Rodgers who is 6’2, 223 pounds.

Wait, do colleges have to hide check-box data on race/ethnicity from admissions officers now? Can race still play a role in targeted recruitment + outreach? More on post-SCOTUS federal guidance.

The Biden administration said on Monday that colleges had lost one crucial tool — race-conscious admissions — but they shouldn’t abandon broader efforts to enroll and support diverse students.

Colleges that want to promote character among applicants are going to ask themselves what their admission and aid practices reveal about the character of their own institutions, right?

This terrific @Carlsonics piece examines a major college-completion barrier that hinders many students. Imagine if this issue prompted the same front-page OMGing that the Ivies do.

I'd never met her before yesterday. And still her affirmation meant a great deal to me. Words are powerful things. I encourage you to use yours today to pour into someone today. You never know what it could mean to them. 3/x

Later in the day I was at the airport waiting for my plane to come back home and I got an email from one of the team members in the training. She said, "Thank you for pouring into us today. You helped me more than you know. And if no one has told you today, I'm proud of you." 2/x

I led a training for an admissions team yesterday and in a moment where we were discussing how emotionally taxing the work of college admission counseling can be, I told the team "If no one has told you today, I'm proud of you." 1/x
