Look at the first several seasons for the Dodgers under the Guggenheim ownership group. Selling out for names like Adrian Gonzalez, Hanley Ramirez, taking on Carl Crawford’s contract etc. How did that work out? It wasn’t until their farm system became sustainable and

The Mets aren't cutting spending. Steve Cohen isn't simply in it for the casino. David Stearns isn't a small market general manager. But the Mets ARE waiting for the right young talent, not overpaying for aging players.

@TonyMetroMLB @129Greenmeadow While I generally agree with you, I don’t think Stearns is universally opposed to long term contracts approaching 30. I think he’s opposed to those contracts where the player will age poorly, and more specifically, decline defensively, thereby becaming almost unplayable
