On the Tongass, we celebrate Mothers of all kinds! Vibrant ecosystems like the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area provide some of the most important habitats for a wide range of wildlife. And we are happy to report that some of our favorite mothers reared new broods this summer.

September is National Mushroom Month: a perfect time to explore the fascinating world of fungi in our national forests. Mushroom hunting for personal use doesn’t usually require a permit. Larger or commercial gathering need a special use permit. Pictured: Admirable Bolete
