Writing a curriculum which sets out what we teach pupils about the rules and routines of school life has been an absolute game changer for improving behaviour. Every pupil and adult is crystal clear about expectations because it is taught explicitly in every class. So powerful.
Many people have requested a copy of "The 5 Core Principles - The Behaviour Curriculum" document.
Please find access to it here:
Feel free to send to other colleagues ☺️
I hope it is helpful
Had the pleasure of visiting
@Aabid_Khan_
this week in his new role as Deputy Head

What a brilliant course that teaches you the nitty gritty of headship and supports your growth as a leader.
Wonderful keynotes from
@AlisonMPeacock
Mike Berril and Chris Nicholls.
Well done to all of cohort 1
@unleashing_me
Some of the comments here are disgusting, shameful and racist
I worked in a school that provided opportunities for Ss to pray, it's an outstanding school, students & staff had pride in this provision
Schools should be beacons for their communities - not work against them.
Recently I have had lots of questions about "What is a Behaviour Curriculum?" "What does it look like?"
I feel
@tombennett71
sums it up well in "Running the Room"
By linking Rosenshines principles in line with the behaviour and routines you wish to see
Teach don't tell
There are transformation journeys in education and then there is
@leamanorschool
. Undoubtedly, a school that will transform an entire community and the evident change on the ground will now continue at speed to make this one of the best schools in Luton. I said it first.
WHAT a day!
Huge thank you to all the delegates for attending Day 1 Teacher Development Leadership Programme and of course big thank you

Visibility in schools is key for all stakeholders.
It drives safeguarding

It creates culture
What do you do to increase staff visibility?

What is the best school improvement driver....🤔
Routines enable students to spend less time thinking about the *process* of learning so they can spend more time thinking about the *content* of learning.

AND WE ARE OFF...
Day 1 Teacher Development Leadership Programme
Almost 100 participants across 60 schools nationally recieving free CPD from
@teacherhead
focusing on improving leading professional development
@BarryNSmith79
@richardtutt
Too often this is left to a "Head of Behaviour" as if it's one person's responsibility
Behaviour is everyone's responsibility but especially the Headteacher and the SLT.
If the Head doesn't make behaviour a priority, nothing will change
Was great to spend some time with the Behaviour and Safeguarding Guru
@Mr_SmithLMHS
yesterday
If you ever need advice around either, I highly recommend speaking with him and visiting
@leamanorschool
Last day of half term (for some/most) don't let the standards drop.
Keep the routines, be visible and on duty.
Support everyone until the end of the day.
Excellence is a habit.
They do a remarkable job serving that community. The children and community in Park Town and it’s surrounding areas is richer as a result of the daily commitment shown by their staff. Well done all.

What is the single most influential factor in my development? I would have to say since proactively diversifying my network, I have learnt a lot more. It’s easy to see equity as an act of charity almost, it’s not. It’s made me a richer individual. Join us
@unleashing_me
and
@MrJSearleCS
delivering on staff development.
Sufian passionately explaining that our moral imperative to put teachers at the forefront of what we do

Clarity is an overlooked leadership anchor. Does your team understand their roles and responsibilities? Do they understand the operational procedures you expect them to follow?
Many leaders assume professionals will just get it.
Be clear, precise and over communicate.

Teachers, feeling the return to school nervous...
Recommendations:
▶️ Revisit the school behaviour policy
▶️First lesson - plan a reset
▶️Include reteaching expectations, routines, rewards and sanctions
▶️Readdress learning habits
▶️Include the "why" we are doing these things
So pleased to have the opportunity to present

When people return to work they often cite that behaviour as a worrying factor.
Really pleased I got to share some insights.
A strong school culture and focus on behaviour is a critical foundation of safe + purposeful schools

Social Norms, Habits, Structures, Routines whatever you want to call them. They are vital for outstanding behaviour and outcomes, not because they are draconian. Why then?Cognitive Load Theory.
