This is often missed when people talk about wage disparities across the country.
The median wage in the Northeast of England in 2024 was £33k. In London, it was £47.5k. But in the Northeast, average annual rent as of end 2024 (per ONS) would eat 26% of that (gross) salary. In London, it was 56%. Who's richer in that scenario?

A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising and volunteering their time for these incredibly important occasions of reflection and remembrance. We will never forget those who gave their lives for our freedom.

Very moving to see so many people marking Remembrance Sunday across Adur and Worthing today. I attended the services in Southwick and Lancing today and laid a wreath at each.

What a Saturday! Gorgeous day at the Shoreham Farmers’ Market, knocking doors in the sun in Fishersgate and then picking up a bottle and a book from our fab local indie wine shop Palate and indie bookstore Chapter 34!

This Government is delivering on its commitment to plant three new #NationalForests across the country. I was pleased to meet with @NatForestCo CEO John Everitt, at @LydiardPark to see how these forests create space for people and for nature whilst tackling the #ClimateCrisis.

Zarah Sultana loves to pose as a champion of the working class, seeing the world through the lens of class struggle. Even, it seems, the war in Ukraine. In her latest interview, she calls Nato ‘an...

There we have it. From the top of the party down, Reform don't think it's racist to complain about seeing black and Asian people in TV adverts. They don't disagree with Sarah Pochin, they're just embarrassed that she's caused a row. That's why Farage has failed to act.
"Why do you think she did apologise then?" "Pressure. I mean, you get an incoming wave of attacks." Sarah Pochin MP should never have apologised for her remarks about Black and Asian people in advertising, says former Reform UK head of press Gawain Towler.

Too many people are living in dangerous, damp and mouldy homes. This must stop. Today Awaab’s law comes into force - social landlords must take urgent action to fix dangerous homes or face the full force of the law.

What I find striking about Polanski is his lack of curiosity. How can you seriously argue against nuclear on jobs grounds? Get out of the M25 and visit any nuclear community from Anglesey and Dunbar to Whitehaven and Hartlepool. They’ll all tell you nuclear means good jobs.

Sarah Pochin’s comments were a disgrace. And Nigel Farage’s silence is deafening.

Nah we’re not having it. She knew what she was saying. She meant it. And as ever, she’s not sorry for what she said - just for ‘any offence caused’. Don’t let this nasty bunch run councils, let alone the country.
🚨 NEW: Reform MP Sarah Pochin has apologised for her "poorly phrased" comments after saying "it drives me mad seeing adverts full of black and Asian people" "My comments on a Talk TV phone-in earlier today were phrased poorly and I unreservedly apologise for any offence caused,

They’re beginning to say the quiet bit out loud. Knocking on doors today in my patch I found door after door after door of people who do not want Reform anywhere near power.
Sarah Pochin MP: “It drives me mad seeing adverts full of black and Asian people.” Caller Stuart in London asks the Reform MP if her party will do anything about the 'representation of demographics in TV adverts'. @petercardwell | @SarahForRuncorn

Then I popped out with Cllr Lee Cowen to check in on residents in Mash Barn at their doors and stopped off to admire the new-ish play facilities at Shadwell Road playground. Hope everyone has a lovely weekend in the autumn sun.

Nice morning in Lancing today! It was fab to see lots of people enjoying the Halloween Fayre at Lancing Parish Hall (with some fantastic spooky costumes for the kids).

Just grotesque to minimise and devalue the sexual abuse of children in service of your homophobia. How could they do that after sitting through a two hour discussion on keeping children safe? Not experienced bigotry like that - or seen red in the same way - in my lifetime.
