idk y'all not searching hard enough or searching at all i hear some new shit every day on soundcloud
idk i think it is basically true we don't have "new music genres" anymore, not because there's no invention happening but because the modernist project of exploding the field of creative possibility has been completed. like there's no "avant-garde" people just do stuff now

Framing being part of culture as a chore is the first issue here. The second is framing an artist process as a task-specific dilemma. Presentness of mind helps solve for all of these 💗

Picked this up yesterday and Harrold takes the time to remind readers that the bar staff and people working venues are nightlife, too, and I love that. It’s seldom said but nightlife is such a tight knit but open effort

There’s new genres of music being made lol as it always goes they just don’t all have names yet
Basically true of most other areas of culture, too. No new genres of music, etc. So much modern culture is backward-looking & revivalist, to an unprecedented extent relative to past eras that also involved revivals. Something is happening we don't fully understand yet

Sally Rooney: "I would like to ask my fellow writers & artists.. not to dwell too exclusively on what we stand to lose. There is another more important side to the story. To join in something greater than ourselves, to participate in.. a struggle for human liberation"

Being queer is fun bc you have a more expansive idea of fierce. He can be buff *and womanly. Dichotomies fall away. It can all be a party. That’s so beautiful and you can see him feeling himself. More of that!!!

Yeezus was way too impactful for my generation not to be considered a classic. No, Kanye West didn’t invent industrial hip-hop, but he definitely popularized that sound at a time when people thought he was crazy for going in that direction

The highschool CD burn playlist having Yeezus on it was truly something else. Pop that disc in at 6:30am and the mayhem started before you left your garage

Thank god my teacher also taught AP comparative government so when we learned about Iran in the 60s and 70s, we also learned about the structure of its government, history of culture, etc. bc she was an overall government nerd. J'adore
AP US History in high school was def some psyop to drag all the smart kids into unquestionable loyalty to empire and western exceptionalism

🚨🚨 INCORRECT 🚨🚨 Many are just not tapped into the gens below them enough to understand the intricacies so they'll make broad statements instead.
Gen Z do NOT have any of their own fashion trends whatsoever. This is CRAZY. I have never seen a generation not have their own fashion trends before.
