The Bonn #climatechange negotiations #SB60 saw a lot of attention on #NDCs. Importantly, as a governance instrument NDCs rely on strong #transparency mechanisms. I've outlined five recommendations for research on NDCs in this new piece in @Env_Pol #UNFCCC.

Just in time for #COP28, I’ve completed my *PhD*🎓at LSE on assessing implementation progress of #adaptation to #climatechange! It’s been a very exciting five years including contributing to the #IPCC Sixth Assessment Report & as lead author to @UNEP's Adaptation Gap Report (1/x).

As 🇩🇪's ForeignMinister rightly said "nobody wants to imagine the adaptation pressures and losses we would face without serious action to curtail #climatechange. This is why decarbonising our economies & accelerating the global energy transition is &must remain the key priority.".

Highest temperatures ever in #UK show how essential, but also how hard & costly #adaptation is. And it will get MUCH worse since emissions continue to rise!🔥Hence, adaptation MUST not take attention away from mitigation - only reducing the causes of warming can spare the worst!.

Crucial presentation of #IPCC #AR6 findings on #adaptation, climate vulnerability & risks at the start of #SB56. Projections of risks beyond 1.5°C & 2°C are indeed frightening! Without deep decarbonisation, adaptation will become increasingly impossible! Final call to action!🔥

We also need to move beyond the limited OECD-DAC evaluation criteria and consider transformative potential, planetry health, systems thinking & equity/inclusion, as proposed by #BlueMarble evaluation @BMEvaluation🌍

2.) As avaluators & evaluation scholars, we need to be catalysts for change and advocate for evaluation design, conduct & communication that address the urgent need to reduce emissions, pollution & biodiversity loss. "incremental change is not going to cut it" says @ScottChaplowe.
