70 countries have a national #adaptation plan (#NAP), but less than 40% are tracking its implementation❗ More attention is needed on the quality of adaptation planning & how effective it is in facilitating #climateaction. #PreCOP26 #GST ➡New article:

The Bonn #climatechange negotiations #SB60 saw a lot of attention on #NDCs. Importantly, as a governance instrument NDCs rely on strong #transparency mechanisms. I've outlined five recommendations for research on NDCs in this new piece in @Env_Pol #UNFCCC.
Nationally determined contributions (NDCs) as a governance instrument – accounting for politics, negotiation progress, and related mechanisms under the Paris Agreement.@TimoLeiter.Pages: 552-557.

Just in time for #COP28, I’ve completed my *PhD*🎓at LSE on assessing implementation progress of #adaptation to #climatechange! It’s been a very exciting five years including contributing to the #IPCC Sixth Assessment Report & as lead author to @UNEP's Adaptation Gap Report (1/x).
Congratulations to @TimoLeiter for successfully defending his viva earlier this week! 🎉. #partofLSE @LSEPhD

#NDCs are at the heart of the #ParisAgreement. What's their role in the Paris architecture and how do we account for implementation? Here's a summary of the five recommendations for NDC analysis from my recent article in @Env_Pol :

@UNFCCC @GRI_LSE The agenda of the workshop provides ample space to discuss the design of the #GGA #framework which follows the recommendations of submissions by observer organisations including from @GRI_LSE

To support the process of adopting a framework for the Global Goal on Adaptation at COP28, this submission outlines key aspects that need to be addressed in its development.

In her speech today at the #PetersbergClimateDialogue. #COP27 *must* deliver more emission reductions! Otherwise, #adaptation will become increasingly impossible or too costly. Limits already being felt! @ABaerbock @AuswaertigesAmt

“In ten years’ time, my home will be gone.” That’s what a fisherman said to me only a couple of days ago when I was standing on the beautiful beaches of Palau. I came to Palau to see what we can do…

As 🇩🇪's ForeignMinister rightly said "nobody wants to imagine the adaptation pressures and losses we would face without serious action to curtail #climatechange. This is why decarbonising our economies & accelerating the global energy transition is &must remain the key priority.".

Highest temperatures ever in #UK show how essential, but also how hard & costly #adaptation is. And it will get MUCH worse since emissions continue to rise!🔥Hence, adaptation MUST not take attention away from mitigation - only reducing the causes of warming can spare the worst!.

@schipper_lisa @mkvaalst @DrJNalau Great work by coordinating lead authors responding to questions from country delegates @schipper_Lisa, Matthias Garschagen, @DrJNalau, @mkvaalst, @adelle_SIDS, @sirieriksen7, Deborah Ley, many of whom I’ve closely collaborated with in my own contributions to the IPCC #AR6

Crucial presentation of #IPCC #AR6 findings on #adaptation, climate vulnerability & risks at the start of #SB56. Projections of risks beyond 1.5°C & 2°C are indeed frightening! Without deep decarbonisation, adaptation will become increasingly impossible! Final call to action!🔥
