Fair to say that was an eventful weekend!
Staggs, Walker, into Lomax, a rollercoaster ride to say the least.
2nd place overall so absolutely stoked, just shy of the top gong but it’s been a (nervous) blast.
Thanks for all the support, apologies if I didn’t get to a message.
Very fortunate to get a gig on Fox Sports NRL Lab with Josh Morris and Chris Lawrence this season, dress code a touch more formal than I'm used to.
Was great to open up the season with a little roast from
@eloisesohier
, excited for the year ahead 🙌🙌🙌
Very fortunate to witness one of the world’s great sporting events on grass…
Wimbledon in the backdrop really topped the day off too 💙💙💙

Legendary Balmain supporter Laurie Nichols is a relative of mine. It was pretty incredible to speak to people from the club to find out how big an impact he had on rugby league, the best fan the game has ever had.
Cameron Munster spending time at fullback at captain’s run, Johns in the halves. Expecting the Storm to run out that way come kick off, with Wishart to the bench. SuperCoach skipper anyone?
@scplaybook1
@telegraph_sport
Hearing Grant Anderson locked into the wing spot for the Storm v Sea Eagles clash, favoured over Dean Ieremia regardless of Papenhuyzen/Munster availability. Barring a Barry Crocker, should mean Round 17 coverage. SuperCoaches rejoice, you beauty 🤑
@scplaybook1
@telegraph_sport
NRL SC Trial Takes: Dogs v Storm
*Papy ($645k) strong. Not enough to buy without goal-kicking duties + bad draw
*Hutcho ($355k) playing both sides, tonnes of touches, in my CTW 🤑
*Burto stuck down left edge, didn't rate 👎
*Hughes ($238k) ✅
*Faamausili ($238k) 👀
@scplaybook1
Stoked to get a gig on the Bloke in a Bar podcast in recent weeks alongside
@RL_Guru
recapping the round.
Nice to put SuperCoach on the back-burner for a few hours to chat straight rugby league. Poke over to Youtube for a watch, or to avoid my melon, any podcasting channels..
Tyrone Munro IN for the Bunnies against the Sharks in Perth, big Supercoach implications with a great match-up against that leaky left edge.
Sit or start?
@scplaybook1
Another year down, one of the more enjoyable seasons with plenty of unique sides.
Couldn't quite capitalise after being well placed overall late on, but a solid season nonetheless finishing 560th.
Stoked to be a part of SC Playbook going back-to-back best league in 2022!
Another SuperCoach season done and dusted!
Happy with a finish of 433rd overall. Stoked the
@scplaybook1
crew took out the top league spot for the year.
Congrats to Timmy Moodie for taking out No.1 spot by the length of the Flemington straight! Bring on the BBL! 🙌🙌🙌
@pudincat666
Mate the SuperCoach community is blessed with good people and positive/constructive feedback. At the moment you’re going out of your way to make it a negative space. Lighten up.
Remarkable how this fella's identity was a mystery to 95% of SC Playbook podcast listeners for four years...
Introducing the Dean Waugh of the Williams clan 👀
@SCSpy1
A big year at Bloke HQ comes to an end with the last Monday poddy for 2023.
Thanks to all that tuned in this year, the boys will be back on deck to do it all again in early Jan 🍻🍻🍻
Finished up last week at
@telegraph_sport
after a five year stint. Incredibly lucky to have worked with some serious talent in the industry and a great crew to boot, very grateful for the experience. 🙌
Bit of a disappointing year for the Stallions, but we'll regroup over the off-season, big internal review, engage personnel changes and come back stronger in 2024.
Congrats to the new champ Wayne, and a shout out to the wonderful Supercoach community for another great year 🙌
Excited to be doing a bit of writing for
@telegraph_sport
again this season, looking after the early and late mail each week, 10 more days... 🏈🏈🏈
@SuperCoachNRL
Jacob Kiraz in massive doubt to face the Raiders, likely to be ruled out, Blake Wilson to debut if confirmed. Jeral Skelton suspended in NSW Cup last weekend.
As always await confirmation with final teams, but hearing Nicho Hynes in major doubt for tonight with a hammy tweak, not considered to be major at this stage 😬
@scplaybook1
Davvy Moale out for four weeks, getting a knee clean out. Limited minutes early in the season makes sense, a few middles back on deck now.
@nrlphysio
did I do good? 😂
Tossed and turned all week but Watene-Zelezniak joining the Stallions over Marzhew.
Wanted Greggy playing left edge, but haven't had confirmation, so will wait a few weeks on him with the big breakeven.
Can finally watch the Warriors right edge attack without closing my eyes.
Congratulations to one of the best blokes in rugby league
@Jarrodcroker
for notching the 300 game milestone 💚
Thankfully Kempy came to his senses to acknowledge the big day
#Crokeinabar
@RaidersCanberra
Big backflip for the Stallions...
Was a bit against Fifita due to missing minimum 4/7 games through Origin period, but it's not until Rd 16 onwards.
He should play six of seven upcoming games, then misses Rd 16, 17, 19.
Welcome to the team big fella 💪
What an outstanding win boys! Grittiest I've seen in a long while by us, all off the back of defence. Tommy Starling brilliant, line speed and contact in defence mind-blowing.
#nrleelsraiders
Another blow for the Raiders with Corey Horsburgh joining Nic Cotric and Elliott Whitehead as outs for the Storm clash tomorrow.
@telegraph_sport
@scplaybook1
NRL SC Trial Takes: Bunnies v Drags
*Duncan time in middle, encouraging for Arrow ($466k) mins on right edge
*Sloan unconvincing, Lomax a sniff at fullback next trial?
*Lomax ($630k) kicking, not Flanno ($310k). Not keen
*Keppie ($385k) decent, possible cheapie
@scplaybook1
Huge signing news for the mighty Cooma Stallions with Big Papa on board for the season, cruel mid-season blow for the
@RaidersCanberra
.
Pack is pretty stacked at the moment though so may have to be an impact role off the bench till he earns his stripes.
Change of plan for the Stallions with the torrential rain in Sydney.
Reversing Manu trade due to conditions, coupled with match ups v gun defensive centres in Crichton and Best to come.
Val Holmes comes in, great match up, won’t have to captain Ponga in the wet, let’s go 🤞
Beers and Breakevens is back for 2024, early spoiler, Ru carries on like a pork chop.
Will be screening his weekly 7pm Thursday phone calls this season to see how he goes on his own...
NRL SC Trial Takes: Raiders v Eels
*Raids cheapies all sub $274k Chevy, Weekes, Strange huge job security issues. Not confident starting any 😬
*Lane ($446k) 🔐
*Tuilagi ($373k) unlikely to be relevant early, but promising signs
*Unlikely early, but Asomua 💪
@scplaybook1
I’m extremely proud and excited to launch a new personal project of mine for NRL and Big Bash SuperCoach fans,
@scplaybook1
.
The great game of SuperCoach is a major passion of mine, so I'm thrilled to be able to continue writing content alongside a serious group of contributors.
Introducing SC Playbook!
SC Playbook aims to provide expert NRL & Big Bash SuperCoach insights and analysis across Classic, head-to-head and Draft formats.
SuperCoach experts, past overall champions and NRL stars combine to deliver daily content.
Site:
Munster fullback, you beautyyyyy! To'o playing right wing, Turuva left. SuperCoach-wise, thinking Panthers left edge get stacks of ball attacking Storm's right edge (pretty weak), meaning To'o potential sit, Tago I like as a play now. Good luck all 🙌
Hearing Addin Fonua-Blake may be another COVID out for the Warriors for the homecoming clash, hopefully no others impacted if confirmed.
Daine Laurie and Jacko Hastings both very close to missing the clash due to passport issues, but all sorted and cleared for takeoff.
NRL SC Trial Takes: Raiders v Cowboys
*Think Strange ($238k) should get nod over Weekes at 5/8, although suspension looming 🤦♂️
*Luki big mins, strong work rate, in for the Stallions 💪
*Smithies ($345k) just needs mins, base will be great, minimal attack. TLT watch
@scplaybook1
Have run through the squads to predict the opening round line-ups. A few early thoughts:
- Roosters depth absurd, 3-4 genuine NRL quality starters to miss the 17.
- Dolphins forward depth also very strong.
- Doggies backline a lottery.
Starting 17s 👉
NRL SC Trial Takes: Tigs v Wahs
*Api ($572k) GK makes him a genuine op. bye hurts 🤦♂️
*Sezer solid, few quality runs. No GK rules him out as a buy
*Leiataua ($238k) beast. One poor D read, very playable CTW if picked
*RTS ($539k) great, didn’t roam, not keen if stuck on edge
Reuben Garrick will be back kicking goals for Manly after giving up the duties to DCE last week due to injury.
Full game-by-game late mail for the week 👇👇👇
Have worked on this one for a long time. With the help of Brad Fittler and Michael Hancock, Carol Manga's passion for rugby league has helped him establish the game in Cameroon without a cent of funding.
- Anderson in, job security solid for now 💰
- Aitken shifting to back-row 💪
- Tass in, likely starting centre 👀
- Barnett not goal-kicking 🤦♂️
Plenty more below...
Full late mail

Alongside good mate Ricky Stuart, autistic 13-year-old Huddie is kicking goals on and off the rugby league field where he feels at home with the Bungendore Tigers
Ricky Stuart said the 'deafening silence' on the bus ride home was the worst of his career. Also that he feels Canberra are treated differently to 'higher profile clubs'. I agree.
NRL SC Trial Takes: Dogs v Sharks
*Stunned Critta didn't get trialled at FLB 🤦♂️
*Salmon ($317k), Curran ($421k), Mann to eat into each others mins? ❌
*Hughes offloading, pending Rd 1 bench, playable FRF in 17s. Mins?
*Kikau ($468k) super lean. Can Dogs utilise him though? 😬
Home after three nights stuck in Lake Conjola and Bendalong. Fire services and police did an amazing job escorting us out before tomorrow after a few flare ups. Best of luck to everyone over the weekend. Here’s a few scenes from past days.

📣 ANNOUNCEMENT 📣
'Stat HQ' is now live on site!
The SuperCoach data centre has been a project going on behind the scenes, and we're now able to get it up to aid your run home.
It's early days, so flick us a message if you find any issues or feedback.
For anyone that hasn’t listened to bloke in a bar podcast - one of the hosts was in cronulla getting a coffee and he went up to pay someone had already covered the cost.
Turns out Ronaldo had walked up once he was finished - pointed to a bunch of tables and covered the costs 🦈
A few NRL/SuperCoach bits and pieces:
- Matt McIlwrick has signed with Parramatta for 2019.
- Good news for Damien Cook, bad news for Reed Mahoney.
- Joe Stimson still in doubt for Round 1, won’t play 80 minutes until fully fit.
- Issac Luke also in doubt for opener.
Extremely excited to get this one off the deck after plenty of hard yards behind the scenes.
The new website plus dedicated NRL Supercoach data centre is live, hopefully it hits the spot for Supercoaches 🙌
📢📢📢 ANNOUNCEMENT! 📢📢📢
The SC Playbook website has had a complete facelift!
Alongside it, 'Stat HQ' has relaunched as a one-stop shop for all your Supercoach data needs and tools to help your squad (in website menu).
Check it out 👉
Good to be back with my old mate
@RL_Guru
for B&Bs in 2023 🍻
A very early squad reveal, but keen on Reuben Cotter to plug into a tough FRF position, Dan Tupou also catching the eye as a premo CTW with the Roosters early draw.
Beers and Breakevens is back for 2023, with SC Playbook's
@TimWill94
and
@RL_Guru
hitting the studio for the first episode of the pre-season.
Kicking things off, Tim drops his early team reveal and strategy around squad balance for the new season.
Appreciate all the considerate messages of support tonight, and yes, I did swallow the pride and finally bring in Reuben Garrick for his double tonne against my will 😂
@scplaybook1
Excited to be back on deck with the Tele in 2023, dropping the weekly early and late mail. With a touch of bias of course directed to the SuperCoach movements that the non-SC player wouldn’t glance twice at.
Round 1 early mail 👇👇👇
One of my favourite poddys yet. Awesome to have
@nrlphysio
on deck for the ep, changed my tune completely on trade plan after the insights on AFB, Cleary, Staggs etc.
🎙️🎙️🎙️ SC PLAYBOOK PODCAST! 🎙️🎙️🎙️
In this week’s edition of the SC Playbook podcast,
@DezHassler
,
@SCSpy1
and
@TimWill94
are joined by special guest
@nrlphysio
to analyse the deepening injury crisis, drop their POD plays, trades/skippers and plenty more.
Stoked that
@WalsonCarlos_11
is back on deck in poddy land in 2023.
Dead set love listening to this bloke talk rugby league and SuperCoach, a great listen this one 🙌
An exciting announcement, our newest podcast is live, a Sunday night weekly SuperCoach wrap up! 🔊
Hitting the studio in 2023 meant we couldn’t get
@WalsonCarlos_11
on the podcast anymore, so we gave him his own.
One of the brightest minds in SC and rugby league in general 🙌
NRL SC Trial Takes: Knights v Sharks
*Will Pryce ($345k) outstanding, could start 5/8 if can back up in stronger trial. FLB only for now, would need dual but potential to solve 5/8 issue🤑
*Lucas great ($502k), bad feeling he & KPP will hurt each other SC-wise. Left edge too 👀
Late backflip since poddy. Thinking carrying Teddy/Turbo over Origin far too risky. Turbo a huge chance at playing two of next six rounds. Will flip him to King Gutho, freeing up $$$ for Simpkin-Mahoney or Simo-Best. Will watch Turbo v Dogs/Titans with a blindfold.
#NRLSuperCoach
Huge SuperCoach (and Sharkies drama) with Nicho Hynes testing positive to COVID following a RAT test, awaiting PCR results.
I guess that makes the vice-captain decision an easy one tomorrow night!
@telegraph_sport
NRL Round 1 predicted teams incoming, happy enough with the majority of the squads put together.
The Tigers back five is about to break me though. Laurie, Staines, Nofa, Naden, Talau, Maumalo, Kepaoa, To'a.
Any insights Tigers fans?
Kikau gone, who ran sweep on Panthers left edge. Suspect that with Garner being a line-running back-rower, that edge shape may change dramatically. This may see Dyl Edwards play far more on the left in 2023, could be significant for his Supercoach output. Big WCC watch. Thoughts?
Very happy with the finish for the Stallions in a fairly chaotic season!
Thanks to
@tim_michell
and everyone at
@SuperCoachBBL
for managing the season despite the interruptions, awesome effort in what I'm sure was very stressful at times.
Time to launch into some NRL SC prep..
Really excited to send this live. A little bias of course, but Sam has an incredible mind for rugby league, not currently with an NRL club as it stands, finally have a chance to pick his brain about the game.
As much about sharing his insights as it is finding a few winners!
⚠️⚠️⚠️ NEW PODCAST! ⚠️⚠️⚠️
The Half-Backed Podcast links former Raiders halfback
@Williams_297
,
@TimWill94
and data analyst James Hughes to help find you a few winners in the upcoming NRL round, while picking apart the thoughts of one of league's sharpest minds in the ex-Raider.
Happy TLT all 🙌
Toughhhh gig finding quality cheapies, although Joe Chan is a nice enough surprise.
Few Supercoach pointers below, full analysis a bit later tonight once podcast is finished.
💥💥💥 TEAM LIST TUESDAY IS HERE! 💥💥💥
The biggest day on the NRL Supercoach calendar has arrived, what were your biggest takes from the round 1 teams? 🤔
@TimWill94
analyses every squad (extended analysis dropping after tonight's podcast) 👉
NRL SC Trial Takes: Titans v Eels
*If avoiding Cleary/Hynes combo, Moses ($695k) looks next best pick at HFB with soft early draw. Looked sharp.
*Fermor ($467k) left edge, can fire when Foz returns 💪
*Brimmo ($587k) on right edge loses appeal, still an interesting watch early.
Warming to Campbell big time after initial reluctance. Will be a rollercoaster ride of mixed scores, but could be a nice ticket to Munster/Dyl Brown type.
With a stack of attacking upside, a dream early draw (bye aside), and Dezzy Hasler at the helm, the Gold Coast Titans present plenty of genuine Supercoach options to start the 2024 season.
Full analysis via
@TimWill94
👉
@clem_cassidy
is unavailable this week for Captaincy picks, so 2020 Supercoach Runner Up
@TimWill94
has stepped in to provide his (far less colourful) captain analysis.

Apologies for previous premature Tweet. While I have complete faith in my sources it was very unprofessional to make public while proceedings were still in play. Quality journalists were on hand at the case to cover. Sincere apologies and I'll ensure it won't happen again.
Fraser-McGurk smashed a world record today, Bloke smashed a podcasting single session time record with this one. Bigggg season review going live on Monday 🙌
Was all going swimmingly till Teddy got hurt and Manu went to fullback where he becomes the best Supercoach player in the game 🙃 Some relationships just aren't meant to be...
