And we’ll stand by Indian-Australians as they are reduced to conspiracy theories by Coalition Shadow Ministers. Apparently Sussan Ley’s Coalition haven’t learned from the election - it’s still the same old punching down on the migrant communities that make our country stronger.

The Albanese Government has stood by Australians with Chinese heritage while their loyalties were questioned by the Coalition. We’ve stood by Australians with Lebanese heritage when a Coalition Minister said it was a mistake to allow them into the country.

Apparently she doesn’t see the contribution the Indian-Australian community makes to our country - to our schools, to our universities, to our hospitals, to our businesses. She just sees politics. And a bizarre vision of politics at that.

The Albanese government represents and reflects all of modern Australia. The Indian-Australian community will be baffled and hurt by Senator Price’s decision to single them out with this bizarre conspiracy theory.

My statement to the Senate today on the weekend's rallies & the attempts by the Liberal and National parties to divide Australians for political gain. Australians know we are stronger together. Australia is a great multicultural nation - that is who we are and I am proud of it.

The Scanlon Foundation Mapping Social Cohesion Report has consistently found that around 9/10 Australians believe multiculturalism has been good for our country. The overwhelming majority of Australians are rightly proud of the diverse country that we have built together.

They want an Australia that would be left behind in the modern world. They are so clearly wrong and that’s why the vast majority of Australians disagree with them.

We shouldn’t give the tiny numbers of people who turned out to these protests the unjustified power of wrongly believing that their views are widely shared. These protesters want an Australia that’s small and weak. They want an Australia that never grows or changes.

This weekend’s March Against Australia attracted a lot of media attention. But we shouldn’t empower these protesters by believing the lies they tell about our country.
