Had a great day in sunny London yesterday, delivering our @genrentuk petition (via @Change) to Number 10 Downing Street. We are calling for an end to shock rent rises. The gov must act to stop these unfair rent hikes. Sign the petition to push for change!.

Much of my work surrounded direct engagement with people within their own communities. Just one example of this is when I had a great day out in Southwark, hearing from members of the Sikh community around their experiences as renters.

In July 2023, I had the great pleasure of organising a Parliamentary event to launch my report surrounding the discrimination of migrant communities, in partnership with @migrantsorg.
We have been to Parliament with @migrantsorg to unveil our latest research into the experiences of migrant private renters in London and the Southeast. The findings shine a light on those experiencing the very worst of the housing crisis. Read more here 1/.

In November of last year I also managed a mystery shopper project which uncovered the discrimination that Black renters face, even before they attend a viewing.

A huge focus of my role was around minority ethnic communities and the inequality they face in renting and housing. Back in December I produced research surrounding the disproportionate use of the Vagrancy Act on Black people.

On the topic of key workers, in February I conducted research around just how unaffordable it is for teachers, nurses and other vital workers to live in our Capital. I spoke on our findings on BBC Radio London.
Earlier today, @TillySmith_1 our Campaigns and Partnerships Officer was speaking to @EddieNestorMBE about the plight of renters in London. The average rent in inner London is worth 106% of a teaching assistant’s salary which demonstrates why we need reform to the sector.
