When did the learning get lost in online workshops? Designing a workshop nowadays seems to be more about marketing than teaching. It’s advertised as “Learn X,Y&Z”, but always ends up being an hour-long sales pitch! #learningdesign #onlinemarketing #onlineworkshops

Zero-Click Content is... scary. Freely giving away value with no hope of tracking ROI goes against everything we were taught as marketers. But have a little faith. Dare to be even more generous. Give your audience the information to help save them time and energy.

Weave your weird into your learning design. Make your course deliciously different so that it stands apart from the mediocrity. #coursecreation #onlinecourses #digitalcourses #learningengagement

Don’t be the sage on the stage. Put the learning into the hands of your learners.
Being the “un-knower” is the new sexy! How can we let go of the need to look like we know it all? Understand that we don’t need to have all the answers. We don’t need to control all the learning. We don’t need to show them how to do everything. Allow some space!

Or maybe we’re just sick of all the mediocrity! We’ve been conditioned to be “nice” We “should” ourselves into reading the whole thing, watching the whole vdo, listening to the whole monologue. But not anymore. Our attention spans are fine. We’re just less tolerant of boring.

I wonder if we’re just becoming more discerning? Because we’re bombarded by content! And we click/swipe/scroll off it bc: 1. It’s not a priority right now (high value, but there’s sthg more important I should be doing) 2. It’s simply not worth our time (ie. crap)

When I excitedly open this week’s story newsletter by my favourite word-weaving wizardess & devour every word, every time… I’d say no.

When I finally drag myself to bed at midnight after binge-watching “The Fall of the House of Usher” last night… I’d say No.

Don’t do a thing just because it’s always been done that way. Or because you’ve been directed to. Think critically. Look for value in it… (meaningful learning / nurtures wellbeing) Then you’ve got a possible 3 steps… 1. Find value & keep it 2. Disrupt or tweak it 3. Dump it

If you believe you have to write your objectives on the board at the beginning of every lesson… Then you probably won’t like much else of what I have to say.

In school, kids have zero autonomy. They don’t choose what they learn or how they learn it. In the real world, the most successful adults are in control of their lives. They choose their own destiny. Without giving kids autonomy, how can we expect them to thrive as adults?

Been watching YouTube videos on learner engagement… No!!! Making a persuasive “sales pitch” to your learners about the learning… is NOT a way to get them engaged !!! #learnerengagement #studentengagement

Been watching YouTube videos on learner engagement… No!!! Telling kids why they ‘need’ the boring thing (rather than changing the boring thing)… is NOT an engagement strategy!!! #learnerengagement #studentengagement
