If Malaysian politics news feels like waiting a long time for nothing to happen, go watch Argentina v Saudi Arabia. Super exciting. #istananegara #10thprimeminister #anwar #interimpm.

This is what happens when @FIFAcom give the @FIFAWorldCup to be hosted in a country that cares squat about football. Halftime fan exodus. If the fans thought their team was shameful, they should look at themselves. #worldcup #fifaworldcup

I’m not sure if you can make the same case for Psalm 22. That one became famous less for its strong location and more for the mega influencer’s name drop that it got many years later.

Psalm 24 is like the restaurant that became famous because it is next door to an even more famous restaurant. There are many other powerful declarative psalms like it. But 24 has the best location.

Psalm 106 contains the entire pattern of our r/s with God:. People disbelief > See salvation > Believe > Forget > (Sin > Get punished, repeat) > A substitute intercedes > Keep sinning > Maximum sin > Judgment > God remembers covenant > Relents from judgment > People praise God.

And when Jesus prepared his followers that following him could come at the cost of their own kin turning on them, he spoke it right out of Micah. This little prophet is really like a 7-track EP with five charting singles.

“Every man will sit under his own vine and under his own fig tree” is from Micah. When they say the Old Testament prophesied that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem, it’s from Micah. The famous mandate “Do justice, love kindness, walk humbly before your God” is from Micah.

Every time I read Micah, I am blown away at how many epic moments it contains, especially for such a short (seven chapter) book. “They will beat their swords to plowshares and spears into pruning hooks” is from Micah.

Jesus really is the Greater Jonah. The same way he is the Greater [Insert any of your favourite part-damaged Old Testament hero]. And that’s good news. Read your Old Testaments that way, my friend. 5/5.

One day Jesus would get thrown overboard by new crew-mates — so to speak — and, like Jonah before him, that too would bring peace to the storm. Only this time, it would be the raging tempest of our cosmic eternities, our existential failures, our characterlogical brokenness. 4/5.

For Jonah, the storm brought to peace when he is thrown overboard by the crew-mates. For Jesus, he speaks to the storm and it quietens. But that’s not all. 3/5.

Jonah is on that ship running away from playing a pivotal role in bringing an entire city, Nineveh, into repentance before God. Jesus is on that vessel heading towards playing a pivotal role in bringing a whole region, the Decapolis, into the knowledge of God. 2/5.

A storm hits. The crew mates freak out and find the “man of God” sleeping somewhere down the vessel. They chaotically wake him up and plead with him to help. And that’s right about where the similarities end between Jonah and Jesus. (But the parallels continue…) 1/5.
