So grateful for a crazy weekend. Barcelona Special Event Champion!
It still feels surreal, but it happened, and I can only thank everyone for their messages of support on various platforms – they mean even more than this very pretty medal I got out of it.
What is the end goal of
@NianticLabs
?
Not the message they put out for marketing purposes, their actual goal.
It's not money, otherwise they'd not have capped remote raiding.
It's not encouraging exploration, otherwise they wouldn't have axed a QoL upgrade that did just that.
No more meaningful PvP updates.
No more rocket stops showing in the distance.
No more remote raiding communities.
No more event spawns during events.
No more Pokémon showing up in battle.
@NianticLabs
wants
@PokemonGoApp
to fail. There is no other explanation anymore.
Like it or not, we're in the middle of a fight for the survival of Pokémon Go PvP. And currently, we're losing. This concerns
@NianticLabs
,
@playpokemon
and every single member of the global community we've been building together. This update is a joke:
@PokemonGoApp
The most pathetic thing about this is the framing. You're actively disenfranchising a chunk of your player base. And not just couch dwellers, but active hardcore players who rely on the remote help from friends they have made. You hurt everyone with this, but yourself the most.
Be careful folks, apparently there’s a new bug out there forcing you to play with the wrong mon, see if you win or lose and then dispute the outcome.
I‘ve heard word that they, as of now, call it the Doone bug, named after the only person it ever happened to.
Regarding Doone vs Bird, the official ruling is that doone selected the correct Registeel, but the incorrect one was brought into the battle. This is backed up by the screen recording. The top referees looked at the footage and this was the ruling.
Niantic's tone deafness continues to be staggering.
I enjoy the game in principle, but the way they rub it in their customers' faces how they don't really matter makes it difficult to want to continue with it.
I assume next season's updates will be make or break for many.
- unique team building
- elite technical play, from undercharges to CMP catches
- the mental fortitude to persist through the losers bracket
- impeccable reads and strategies
I don’t think I can remember a more impressive P!P run. Huge congratulations,
@InadequancePOGO
! 🇳🇱
@PokemonGoApp
Just here to add to the voices calling out the disrespectful treatment of the PvP community, be it its players or those who even tried helping you out with their insights.
Not you though, social media person. You have a nice day! It’s your bosses we’re angry with.
Earliest legend of my PvP career for a strong finish to a great month! GGs to all my opponents, those were some interesting puzzles to solve.
I climbed from 2600 with BBML (see team name). All of these Pokémon are very underrated – and might be following me to Toronto…
So we're doing
#HearUsNiantic
again? Good.
An important thing to note is that with the recent changes to remote passes, incentive to actually go outside and explore is at an all-time low. I have no local raid group. If I went out to raid in the past, it was with online friends.
We are supporting the community once again with
#HearUsNiantic
. The recent raid changes announced by
@NianticLabs
for
@Pokemon
GO are nothing short of disastrous for the future of the game and the community.
Please read our letter and see .
Thank you.
This needs to stop immediately. People book travel/accomodation to compete in a game they try to improve through volunteer work, just to have their account suspended over those attempts if a small group of reviewers doesn't like it. Hands off people's Go accounts ffs
Hi. I just did get banned. I don't know how and for what. All photos I have ever sent in the Wayfarer system were Pokestop photos. I hope I get unbanned before regionals in Lille.
@NianticHelp
@NianticWayfarer
could you say which photos were inappropriate?
I wonder if
@RobDancing
has gotten tagged every time he faced someone with a Twitter account in GBL. But look at this beautiful pose! (
@IIIPranavIII
can even look at either of them).
Niantic’s sales pitch was to bring fantasy creatures into the real world.
Instead, they now make real people live in their fantasy world, where large in-person gatherings are just one Campfire notification away.
You can not force community. What you can do is course correct.
Thanks for making this in person only... really helping out those players in smaller cities👍🙂
Honestly I just can't... how far of can you be from reality...
Hey,
@PokemonGoApp
. Let me do your work for free and introduce some balance changes for PoGo PvP that would improve the meta, keep things fresh and spare you the anger from the people you decided to disappoint again. It's not too late yet!
Let's have a look, shall we?
Disclaimer: Please don't attack Michael personally over this. The man's probably doing more than his job description requires him to.
Still, this aged like milk. Niantic is actively trying to phase out Pokémon Go PvP, if not PoGo altogether. There is no trust left. Just sadness.
@TheZzweilous
I will personally take accountability for the lack of major balance changes in PvP this season. It’s something I usually keep my eye on, so that’s on me. However, I do hope battlers can take the long view on this and trust that we’ll continue to improve and tweak over time.
"While we're sad to see The Silph Road closing its doors..."
You were literally the one closing these doors,
@PokemonGoApp
. Just be upfront about it: You didn't deem the biggest ever global grassroots outlet worth your money. This is what's happening. No sadness, just business.
Hey
@NianticHelp
, is there any chance you could educate your guy Adam about your own game mechanics? Or are XL candy from catching evolved forms not guaranteed anymore?
Update: As confirmed by the in-game support, the solution to their Kleavor mess-up is not to even acknowledge the issue (let alone fix it), but to move the goalpost to “tough luck, XLs from evolutions are no longer guaranteed”.
This is such a bad look
@NianticHelp

I see two types of people on my timeline:
- people who got nothing out of the ShM2 weekends
- people who had a fun time playing in cars
I guess location data from car play is also kind of valuable, I guess. But it's not really encouraging exploration, is it?
Dortmund recap:
– 3rd ever top cut
– 2nd ever medal
– called Talonflame meta early on the Show 6 podcast with
@SpeediestChief2
– restored Europe's honor 👨🏻🍳
– only lost by slim margins to the GIGACHADs
@colin6ix
and
@ArceusAurelius
ggs, very happy with the weekend!
Top cutting at an event with so many friends around feels special. Having a great time at EUIC!
Abomasnow gaming has been a ton of fun, and Lanturn, the fish is now Play! Pokémon canon. ggs to all my opponents!
My elo has risen from the grave! And with the funny turtle, too. Legend on the dot, my shiny libre knew Sky Attack, must be legacy.
ggs to everyone, especially the one guy who top lefted out of an RPS win when he saw Carracosta come out.
See y'all in London next weekend 🐓
PoGo item idea: Shadow TMs. They are able to remove Frustration from a Shadow Pokémon outside of dedicated Rocket Takeovers.
Waiting months before using a newly caught Shadow Pokémon in tournaments serves no purpose. Implemented well, this change would be a win for both sides.
While the overall meta balancing has improved substantially, this still irks me.
We're about three days away from people submitting their Utrecht teams, and the blogpost is nowhere to be found.
If Go is supposed to have a future within P!P, Niantic needs to be more committed.
What do you think of todays season announcement (Hidden Gems)? Something we’d like to do in the future is get PvP updates announced earlier so players have time to prep better for Play! Pokémon tournaments.
Still not over yesterday's news.
And especially not over the fact that Niantic's so-called commitment to »in-person gatherings« consists of forcing me to cut ties with *the only people I want to meet in person*, namely my PvP friends.
This is a sociopath's idea of community.
To anyone struggling in GBL this season: You are not alone. I've been:
– in the 2900s four times this season
– one set away from legend twice
– on a 2-0 at 2990 going into today's battles
This is where the day ended. This game is a streaky one, best thing is to just keep going.
ggs everyone! I did the thing, but I'm not happy with the process.
– Nerves got in the way. A lot. One win from 3000 => I make a simple mistake. Happened like five times.
– I know a ton about PvP. Problem is: I can’t execute it in the moment often enough. Need to sync that up.
When one's goals are as lofty as topping the leaderboards, falling just short doesn’t need to indicate failure.
In GBL, I trust myself to hang with the best now. What was important to me was to preserve some fun and originality along the way. All of these climbed 100+ points:
Empty words and slaps in the face of the community, part 42069. I've never been a big raider, so the Master League has never been accessible for me. Now, it won't be accessible for anyone ever again, while simultaneously being pushed upon the player base every season.
Trainers,
We want to give you a heads-up about changes coming to Pokémon GO’s Remote Raid Passes. These changes are designed to rebalance the game and ensure it’s enjoyed by Trainers for years to come.
Learn more on our blog:
The first three Play! Pokémon events of the post-Trevenant era are wrapped up. And while the meta might not have settled, there's some developments worth talking about. Let's dive into it, shall we?
Cliff notes:
- Medi up, Sableye up... Altaria up?
- Way less RPS
- Spice works?
This is why I *need* everyone who enjoys PvP (and the PvP community) to consider travelling to a regional/international.
Even if you think of the "you could be the one on stage!" argument as unrealistic or unappealing – when I look at this, I just want to be in the crowd!
I'm out of ideas at this point. Feeding misinformation to partnered creators and damaging those people's reputation in the process is just the icing on the cake.
Who's taking responsibility for these decisions? It can't always be
@MichaelSteranka
– as much as his dedication...
Some thoughts on the state of competitive PoGo after EUIC:
– Aeeriis' impressive win was an upset even for Silph standards
– hitting legend =/= having the ability to hit legend
– GBL and show 6 are different, but not a hierarchy
– hitting legend in GBL is too easy
[1/x]
This season was a lot of trial and error, mostly error. But learning OGL after flat out refusing to touch it for a year or so was worth it, I guess?
Glad I made the final push with a team of my own creation (Awak is a Shadow, Walrein isn’t). ggs trainers!
The greatest sin of the GBL interlude season is not the terribly designed battle pass, the recycling of unwanted cups or the lack of legendary encounters.
It's a reward pool that spews out Pikipek, Yungoos or Misdreavous, mons not even worth a click when on the map, at lvl 20.
Four weeks of the season done, time for a little check-in. Elo's sitting at like 2924 at the moment for the third time this season, confident I hit 3k soon after the upcoming ML week.
Liking the themed cups this season quite a bit, but OGL/OUL have somehow been more successful.
Usually I end these full of regret and disappointment about a poor performance.
And while 5-2 still isn’t what I hoped for, I think I piloted this team really well at the Hartford regionals,
@KevinSaludares
and
@JEngels21
were a little too tough to overcome in a stacked group.
This week of GBL highlights the main issue of ML accessibility: The spawn pool. Even if you wanted to, you couldn't just go out and grind for the relevant meta Pokémon, because those are rare by design. If you didn't have some time off during a previous event, you're out of luck.
If you have two hours to spare and want to feel really down about the short-term future of PvP, this is a must watch.
I think it’s obvious that Michael cares about PvP, but it’s equally obvious that that’s a fringe opinion around Niantic. “Expect nothing” is honest, at least.
They've abolished raiding, they've abandoned PvP, their blog posts are riddled with errors, their acknowledgement of the community/
#hearusniantic
is nonexistent.
Now, they take away event bonuses and follow it up with a smug "isn't it great to go outside?" tweet.
12 battles with Magnet Zone, 8 battles with Shadow Bee, 5 battles with Blaze Chicken.
18-7, +168 points on the day. We outran the algo.
ggs trainers! As much as I like to mald about GBL, I appreciate every single one of these sweaty battles.
Now… Even more fun stuff?
So the new Niantic TOS essentially make it so that whenever you purchase a ticket to an in-person event, you don't purchase access to the features advertised, but you gamble on them not
a) screwing up the execution (Vegas)
or
b) taking back bonuses (all recent infographics).
Wow
@NianticLabs
. After issues at so many of your in-person events your only answer is to change the TOS to limit your own liability? How about a team of developers that can test the updates they make and actually listen, learn, and grow with the community instead of playing…
Here's the team that I would have brought to the Gdansk regional, had I not fallen sick in the most untimely of manners.
Gutted to miss out (and subsequently see my worlds bid all but in the bin, given the likelihood of people lapping me in the CP race). Bouncing back in 2024?

It’s only three weeks until we get the move update, and beyond maybe Breaking Swipe Steelix in blind formats, nothing in Go PvP feels so toxic that it would require drastic changes.
Credit where it’s due – this has been an excellent season in terms of meta balancing.
After two days of Clodsire gaming, the verdict is as follows:
– not a safe swap, too many polarizing match ups vs ice/water/ground types
– ridiculous longevity, very viable counterswap in many neutral scenarios
– undecided on moves just now, I kind of like PS/SB over MS/SE tho
If anyone wants to have fun in GBL and doesn’t care about elo too much: Those three have been enjoyable and peaked at 2994.
You're not going to beat the big rocks and grounds with it, which is unfortunate in a Steelix/Carbink/Basti meta, but you do have play vs everything else!
Early S17 impressions:
– Gligar is at most the
#3
flyer now
– 'tis the season of Skarmturn/Talonturn
– Salazzle burning through negative type match ups is fun
– the charged TM issue has become all but game breaking. A 5x increase would barely adress the issue, it's that bad
I think the *only* way
@PokemonGoApp
can mitigate the damage is to look at the response from the community and keep the change. It made going out more exciting and safer, cheating less attractive, and fixed many self-inflicted problems (like reduced CDay hours). Just keep it.
My personal breakdown of the S17 blogpost – the good, the bad, and the ugly.
– there's a good Steelix nerf and a bad one
– plenty more fish in the sea
– a season for fighters, not for lovers
– P!P will change – but will it be for the better?

Some good news, if you needed those on your timeline.
PvPoke is to team building what The Silph Arena was to tournament organization. I'm glad one of this community's heroes will stick around for longer. Just signed up for their Patreon, will do the same for future PvP outlets.
Devastating news. There's a lot to process still.
In this time of uncertainty, I want to share my commitment to supporting grassroots PvP in whatever form it takes next. As long as there are battlers, the battles will go on.
rip the dream. Got outclassed day two, ggs to
@AMindJokePoGo
and
@_ldexxbl
, who did what I couldn’t: Trust their team comp after games one and two without overthinking their adjustments. Lost both times because of too little rather than too much Ampharos. That’s life, we move.
@2Obutters
Alright, alright. I’ll bite. Transferring my Bastiodon if someone wins a regional/international with an Ampharos and/or a Quagsire on the team before March 1st.
Virtually everyone who plays this game competitively strongly disagrees with this ruling.
Moving the threshold from "lag has to remove a realistic win condition" to "lag has to remove *all* win conditions" for a rematch to be granted opens the door to horribly unfair outcomes.
I'm conflicted about the new update.
Is it smooth, consistent, has only minor hiccups and could be the fix we all have waited for for years? Yes, sure.
Am I losing a shit ton of elo because inconsistent game mechanics helped distract from my flaws as a battler? Potentially.
As it is customary, here’s proof of me not being washed anymore (in 1500CP cups). 19-1-5 run sealeod it. Weird season, felt so far behind, but still clutched legend five weeks in.
Much love to the people in the community I could not have done this without. Now: More fun stuff?
GBL season ends a few points below leaderboards. Easily my most successful one yet:
– peak elo: 3690
– peak LB position:
#2
– built original teams for every cup I played
No goals for next season other than having fun playing the battles and spending time with the community.
After a 20-5 day and a still intact 13 game win streak, I think the Magnet Zone team might be legit – so I'll share it with the lovely people of whatever this platform calls itself these days. All non-shadow!
I really wish I had the XLs to play Fantasy Cup. The way everybody’s in agreement that it’s one of the all time best metas while simultaneously being a rather narrow Gira/Regi/Fini cup has me intrigued.
Anyway, I had to make do with OGL, and somehow it’s been enjoyable?
Peak for the season before a lag-induced downturn. Team's incredible, but probably has a learning curve? TMing between sheep moves every other day.
Ready for the news to drop! Not been a huge fan of this season’s meta(s), also summoning a UL Premier prayer circle 🕯️
I barely played during the GBWeekend, but I did the thing. And yes, I played some non-Amphy sets this season, but with their net elo being like -200, I still feel like I've completed the “Amphy to legend” challenge successfully
This event does not have me excited, mainly because I'm strictly a PvP player.
However, you have to appreciate how well-designed this is. We get: A new mon, a new legendary, a new shiny with a new mini-event, a bonus dust mon, a useful XL target. Something for everyone.
Trainers, get ready to discover the Lush Jungle event! Encounter Fomantis, Lurantis, and the Legendary Tapu Lele as they make their Pokémon GO debuts! 🌴
There will also be a weekend park spotlight featuring Cottonee! 🍃

Apart from personal disappointment (rocket events used to be my favorite grind), I do not understand this from a game design perspective.
Leaders are supposed to be the carrot to chase, the reason why we defeat six grunts. Why should we do that for two dex fillers and a rerun?
Team GO Rocket Leaders Cliff, Sierra, and Arlo are using different Shadow Pokémon with the start of the Team GO Rocket Takeover event.
Trainers will also receive a new Special Research and rescue Shadow Regirock from Giovanni.
Full Details:
Yo
@NianticHelp
, good morning to you! I really like that there's increased Rocket Grunt activity for the Season of Heroes, good stuff. Problem is: You can't see stops light up from afar anymore, only when close by. Will that be patched? Would be huge for QoL. Much love, Zz
@PoGoKieng
@ItsAXN
I appreciate your trademark humbleness and your respect for the incredible battler AXN is, but let's keep it real: If *the* KiengIV set his mind on competing again, nobody would be safe.
Got scammed by the venue’s WiFi in the winner's finals, but still proud of my run at the Liverpool regional!
The team felt strong and flexible and put a lot of pressure on opponents' team building, the connection not holding up was just unfortunate.
I know, people are at the fictional R26 and whatnot, but the brag here is me and my Solrock just having a really good time. ggs to everyone I faced along the way, and a fun Go Battle Day to everyone still playing!
Look at this, it’s a season high!
Dropped a few points after (for going 6-4, but alas).
Still, one lucky set away from potentially making that elusive
#1
club? Would be a 2024 goal clinched early.
Medicham/Lanturn nerf? Yeah, would be nice.
An array of barely used Pokémon made meta or at least pushed into viability? Sure, I'll take it.
But above all, can we PLEASE get rid of OML/Catch Cup as the final weekly rotation for the new season? Everybody hates that.
