Holy crap. Used to get the occasional (multiple) fire-ant bite when I lived in Ft. Myers, Florida. Not fun.
Have you seen fire ant rafts in floodwaters? This one was drifting on Lake Travis. When underground nests flood, fire ants link their legs and jaws together to create buoyant, self-assembled mounds.
