#7 Consider insulating the AC window itself. Fit/tape the AC exhaust to a foam/polystyrene panel (thicker = better & a few £ at your local hardware store) & fit the panel into your window sill. Stuff leftover insulating lining from tip #6 into cracks - style < staying cool!👇.

#6 Depending on your mobile AC unit/setup, consider insulating the exhaust pipe (foam or foil-backed insulating sheets/wrap works best). This makes a BIG difference, and will only run you around 20 pounds/euros for a roll at your local hardware store.👇.

#5 Avoid using the oven/stovetop on hot days if you can. Again, this makes a HUGE difference. Opt for a cold alternative, do meal prep on cooler days, use the microwave, BBQ outside, or splurge on a takeout.👇.

#4: If it's a cool night, put a fan (upstairs if 2-story) blowing OUTWARDS at a window to cycle heat out, and another fan at the opposite end of the house sucking cool air IN. Combining this with the stair fan makes a HUGE difference.👇.

#3 Cold air sinks. If you live in a 2-story, put a strong fan at the base of your stairs blowing upwards. If your AC is upstairs, it will help keep the cool air upstairs. If it's downstairs, it's the only way cool air will get there at all. Great tip even if NOT using AC!👇.

#2 If temps are going to be tolerable/better overnight, open all of your curtains/windows to cool off & then close ALL OF THEM in the morning/before it heats up. Likewise start your AC early, as it will have a MUCH easier time KEEPING cool than reversing oven-like temps.👇.

#1 Line the sunny side of your curtains with white fabric (or a white sheet). Better yet, tape up space blankets or tinfoil on sun-facing windows to bounce heat out. If you’re renting, check your lease before sticking stuff to the glass (🙄)👇.
