Hockey is just the most fascinating blend of “suck it up, be a man and play through that broken leg” and “that fucker took a hard shot on our empty net. This has hurt our feelings. He must die.”
Holy shit, look at Sergei Federov have sex with the camera here during the 1994 All-Star player intros. You can't tell me 27 ladies didn't get pregnant just from watching that.
If hockey comes back this season we should be allowed to appoint one single fan to watch the games who’s only job is to shout “shoot!” on the power-play and occasionally bang on the glass.
Class act right up until the end. Bruce Boudreau takes in the crowd and acknowledges the fan support as he walks away from the Canucks bench one last time.
Tonight my father passed away after battling cancer that came out of nowhere.
First, cancer can go fuck itself.
Secondly, rest in peace Roger Arndt. I got my creativity from you and I’ll remember you every time I write.
Hug your families and friends.
If Brock Boeser sadly skating away from his teammates while looking back at them doesn't get 1000 likes then the internet doesn't work properly. Gif of the night right here.
Hail to our king John Garrett. It won't be the same without you. You brought a natural charm and charisma that is a much needed commodity in sports and I always looked forward to any game you were a part of calling.
I’ve sat through countless dinners where the people wanted to do a prayer beforehand and I just let them do their thing. Gasp, I even held hands and bowed my head even though I’m not religious.
How hard is it to wear a fucking jersey for 20 minutes.
Bo Horvat was a stand up human being, did everything the franchise asked of him, and tried his best to survive two Jims. He deserves a shot at a playoff run, whether it's in New York, or elsewhere. Canucks fans will continue to applaud him from afar.
Feels like a lot of hockey players that were a "problem in the room" were probably just dudes who would call shit out, and a lot of the "best leaders in the game!!" are ones who wouldn't say a word.
If you're set on hiring former players to run NHL Player Safety, hire the Sedins and then give them full control to make whatever decision they want.
Sure, will they mandate players hug it out after an incident? Yes, but that's because they're delightful human beings.
Collin Delia faced 21 high danger chances, kept the Canucks in it, and was smart enough to not leave the ice until defensive liability JT Miller gave the puck to someone else.
First star of the game.
Reached out to me when my dad passed away, meant a lot to me. Here I am, some guy making dumb jokes about his team night in and night out, and he still sent me condolences. Just one of the best humans I have covered in this sport. Good luck Troy From Richmond.
“We would like to thank Troy for all of his contributions to our team and community. Stech brought an intensity and high compete level to every shift. He was an incredible ambassador for our team and we wish him and his family all the best.” -

Watching Chris Tanev grow up in Vancouver, from that first pass to Fanner Glass in 2011, to the last puck he fearlessly blocked in 2020, this guy loved this city and gave every single ounce he had to this team.
Just an absolute warrior for this team.

Zadorov mocking Walman with a little griddy action.
See? This is how you settle these things. Not with blatant cross checks to the face. With accidental high sticks and revenge dances.
Morgan Reilly has a lot to learn.
Also can we talk about how ballsy it was for Tocchet to employ the net-front Zadorov strat on the tying goal? Playoff Nikita boxed out two Predators on the goal:
Suspend him as long as you can. That's about as predatory as it gets. Lines it up the entire way. Makes direct eye contact. Lifts the shoulder to ensure as much head contact as possible is made. Absolutely cowardly hit from McAvoy.
Canucks games at Rogers arena have atmosphere now.
Fans are happy.
Fans have swagger.
Fans can make fun of the other team for once.
Dare I say it, pride has been restored to the fan base.
Games are fun again.
And while we're at it, Alex Mogilny should be in the Hockey Hall of Fame, end of story. 1032 career points, 1st European captain, first Soviet to defect to NHL (which had to be terrifying for a 20 year old), 76 goal season, Stanley Cup winner, and best five hole shot of all time.
Canucks ABSOLUTELY crushed that 50th season game opener. Just knocked it right out of the park. Seeing Kirk McLean in his old gear was such a mark our moment for me. Awesome job to the team that put that together.
Kevin Bieksa is out here doing a stand up routine and it's like the greatest hits of the 2011 core, roasting everyone.
It. Is. Amazing.
Canucks need to create a Patreon for this content.
Everyone,
@botchford
‘s Bench is here. A giant thank you to everyone who donated or made people aware of this initiative. I’ve included a map to show where it is in relation to Rogers Arena, home of the

Roberto Luongo gave Canucks fans some of the most exciting moments on the ice and on Twitter. Best goalie in Vancouver Canucks history. And a damn fine poet too. Enjoy retirement man, see you in the rafters one day.
Jacob Markstrom played his ass off in Vancouver and worked his way up from almost being run out of the league, to becoming an All-Star and MVP goalie for the Canucks.
He deserves to go for that giant pay day wherever it takes him. I will miss the Scrum Lord's intense scrums tho.
Rest in peace to "Super Dave" Bob Einstein, who had some of the best scenes with Larry David as Marty Funkhouser in Curb Your Enthusiasm. Gonna have to re-watch some of them tonight.
Ok time for all Canucks fans favorite time, the "The Canucks should win this but they have a history of breaking my heart so I can't relax at all" third period.
Seriously just imagine you fire a bunch of people and then play them off with Good Riddance (time of your life)? It feels like a sketch. Like something Mr. Burns would do. Just absolute out of touch corporate asshole monsters.
In closing, fuck Bell.
There is just something very on brand for the Canucks franchise to have the emotionally cleansing, cathartic victory in game one only to have their starting goalie out for the rest of the series for game two.
Hockey Gods remain undefeated.
He was the Batman to my Robin. I have zero words for this. I don't even know how to process this. I'm gonna miss you Botch. You had such a huge impact on my writing and were also a friend away from the writing game. I don't know what else to say or think.
Alex Edler will probably never get the respect he fully deserves (he was too darn quiet and polite!), but was without a doubt one of the best defenseman in Vancouver Canucks history.
Everyone please break a hockey stick in honor of Alex Edler's career being done in Vancouver.
The Canucks played one of the shittiest defensive games I have ever seen and Elias Pettersson fucking dragged them to a win with 5 points and the shootout winner.
The guy is an absolute stud. This is the guy you build around.
Ray and Shorthouse have such good chemistry that they're breaking down who dropped the F bomb together.
They need to be together for all Canucks games if we can't have Garrett.
