Thankfully, it is study day. I can work from home where I am buried in both snow and marking.

I will soon have hoses for watering my vegetable garden! Looks like Robins are ready to fledged. Next year, we will make sure to take anything we actually need out of the lean-to before it is too late

I found my first black-throated green warbler nest yesterday. All 3 our team has found are tucked into birch bark.

I am trying to record and follow black-throated green warblers. I almost never actually see one, but I sure have a sore neck tonight. I might have to try using my airplane pillow.

I went camping this weekend and heard whip-poor-will calling from across the lake. Sadly, this is such a rare treat even in the wilds of Northern Ontario

Connor Acorn has started a field expedition studying Ovenbirds in the Hiawatha Highlands. Connor studies social communication and sound amplitude in migratory warblers. 🔉🔊🐦 It is a joint project with our lab and @TheOVEN_Foote lab. Great work @acorn_connor! [📷 J. Foote.]

I am really happy for the birds that are arriving extremely early from far off places despite not knowing spring was early here in Northern Ontario. This should be good for reproductive success. I am, however, scrambling, exhausted, and forced to rapidly get into shape.

A chipping sparrow just landed on my deck furniture less than 0.5m away from my face. I was sitting on my backyard couch. I guess I am so tired from walking around the forest that I seem to be furniture too.

Apparently, there are rewards for 12 hour days at the start of the field season. Happy to collect this one just before it started to rain.
