that they won't talk shit about you to everyone they know, from personal experience - yes that is a thing that happens. But I promise you if you move with integrity, you own up to your mistakes and you keep grinding you'll find your people. And that I can promise is worth it.

But if you are met with pushback, hostility, DARVO, or just a general denial of accepting accountability - run. It won't get better, if they see they can get one over on you once than it will become a habit. And the longer you stay the harder it will be to leave. I can't tell you.

who may be wondering "Did they mean to hurt my feelings?" It doesn't matter - if you're hurt than you should bring it up as to avoid having to feel that way again. Any reasonable person who causes harm inadvertently should be willing to change the harmful behavior.

and that there is always a way to move in kindness and you have NO idea how badly someone could need that consideration at anytime. Chase the bag, acquire the clout, but remember kindness. The two aren't mutually exclusive. And one last thing in this little rant for the person.

If I didn't confess to falling into that same pit. This isn't an admonishment this is a plea, to this space and this hobby that I love to remember kindness if nothing else. Remember that people are people, that we all have dreams and ambitions but also we have our own struggles.

Its about the biggest name you can drop, or maybe getting someone from Dimension 20 or Critical Role to notice you. Its about being invited to the big events, the live games in the big theater or getting that merch deal or whatever. Hell I would be the worlds biggest hypocrite.

a lot of ugliness in what it is we're all here to do. For many its no longer about the stories, its no longer about the game, its no longer about trying to elevate your party members because your excited to see what happens next for them. Its about followers, its about clout.

and most notably and sadly quite frequent, a distinct lack in care. Tabletop is a collaborative medium, its at its very best when everyone involved is vibrant, excited, safe and heard. The rise of Actual Plays and then the bubble kinda bursting on the scene has brought out.

I've come across people who are stalwart in defense of the silver lining. One's that are willing and able to call me on my shit, so that I know I can trust them when they verify that I've encountered the bullshit we face in this space. Passive aggressiveness, subliminal shots.

It's hard to trust myself in these moments and so often I've just retreated inside my head and let the self assessment begin which often times has led to spiraling. Its easy to diminish oneself, and its even easier to let others do it to you. I think that's what community is for.

Navigating social dynamics is just something I've never really been good at. I get awkward I close up and its something the brain gremlins tells me is a burden on folks and so often in social situations when I feel hurt or offended I default in "How did I cause this?".
