Sources close to Rudy Gobert tell me “he is emotional about leaving Utah, he is passionate about winning and wanted to bring a title to the fans”
#TakeNote
NBA people I’ve talked to tonight are surprised by the Utah Jazz aggressiveness in free agency. Hassan Whiteside & Rudy Gay had multiple other suitors yet chose the Jazz, several people told me the influence of Dwayne Wade & playing with Donovan Mitchell made it possible
Spoke with a
#SMU
booster today who tells me there is a group of donors willing to give SMU $200 Million over the next five seasons to compensate for the lack of distribution in the ACC. The donors believe SMU is in a now or never situation for entry in to a P5 conference.
#NBA
sources tell me the
#Knicks
and
#Jazz
are talking today and are optimistic they can get a Donovan Mitchell deal done. The Utah Jazz have been pretty firm in not taking RJ Barrett back in a deal with the Knicks.
#BREAKING
: PAC 12 sources tell me Arizona, ASU, and Utah are in discussions on a move to the BIG 12 "It is simply a matter of the process playing out".
Details coming up on the show:
The Jazz and Knicks are advancing on a deal for Donovan Mitchell. The Two sides are working on a third team to bring additional compensation to the Utah Jazz, a move aimed at keeping Quentin Grimes out of the deal.
The Arizona Board of Regents will discuss the PAC 12 media rights deal, and moving to the BIG 12, in their Executive Session this afternoon. Sources tell me it's a formality at the board level, and is 100% in President Robbins hands.
Utah Jazz sources tell me Donovan Mitchell was a major topic of conversation with Will Hardy and one of the reasons Hardy won the job is his vision for developing an offense that plays to the strengths of Donovan Mitchell
It sounds like ASU is not excited to go to the BIG XII and that Michael Crow is making a case for Arizona to move on their own!
Amazing if it plays out this way.
RE: Kalani Sitake to Oregon, I am told when asked if his preference would be to take the
#Oregon
job or stay at
#BYU
Kalani made it clear he wanted to be at BYU, which pretty much ended the conversation
TV industry sources tell me ESPN & the BIG 10 have had talks over the last several weeks about adding a BIG 10 late night package beginning in 2024 to accommodate Oregon, Washington, Stanford and Cal, including a Friday Night game. 1/2
To clarify what we are hearing about Utah: There is no trustees meeting tonight. I am told Utah has been in communication with UA, ASU, and the BIG 12, and are following the process which starts for them tonight with the Arizona Board of Regents, who we are told will authorize UA
Sources close to BYU tell me the “Royal Collective” will be announced next week at
#BYU
. It is a partnership with BYU and will have a $2.4 Million Dollar war chest, each BYU football player will get $30K per year, paid monthly.
NBA Sources tell me the Utah Jazz have the access to 4 unprotected first round picks in a multi-team trade, including the Lakers & Knicks. Teams are working on total compensation and player swaps.
There will be no ASU closure tonight, UA is done, simply waiting for an invite now, but ASU is asking for time to work through the process and consider the PAC 12 GOR being tabled tomorrow. All the while Utah waits …
Unbelievable!
NBA sources tell me the Utah Jazz are focused on acquiring Suns C Deandre Ayton or Atlanta PF John Collins. I am also told the Jazz and Hawks were very close to a deal before the Kevin Durant saga began late last week.
I am told Jaxson Dart has told Lane Kiffin his preference is
#BYU
but that Michael Trigg is undecided. This led Kiffin to visit Dart today. Dart & Trigg have told everyone they want to play together and see themselves as a package deal.
I am told
#BYU
is working with a “sense of urgency” to finalize a reworked agreement with Kalani Sitake. There is a clear understanding both sides want to get it done, Kalani is focused on the Bowl game and recruiting.
The PAC 12 is in deep water: Sources tell me ESPN & Amazon are the players, $22 million per school, per season with no guarantee all games are broadcast. There would only be 2 games a week, potentially 3 games based on national schedules for ESPN. 1/2
Stanford and Cal will likely NOT be invited to join the BIG 10. I am told 20 teams is not something the BIG 10 is willing to do now. It's a very difficult situation for Stanford and Cal, as they don't have a natural destination if the PAC 12 collapses.
Listen to Washington State President & Chair of the PAC 12 Board of Directors Kirk Schulz, in June, talking about how Washington State can not build a budget off of projections....WOW! How does this work with the Apple deal?
#PAC12
NBA sources tell me the
#Knicks
are frustrated with Utah Jazz CEO Danny Ainge & his unwillingness to come off his asking price on Donovan Mitchell. The Knicks felt a deal was close earlier this week, however Ainge has not budged on his asking price of 6 1st round picks.
Is Donovan Mitchell worth all of this? Is Donovan Mitchell worth 6 picks and 4 players? Are the Utah Jazz better without Donovan Mitchell? Is Kevin Durant stuck in Brooklyn? What about Kyrie? Is BYU or Utah the better brand? Is it better the rent or buy right now?
A TV industry source just said to me: "If the deal was good, they would have voted to ratify, it speaks volumes about the deal George presented that half the room did not think it appropriate to take a vote"
#PAC12
Multiple NBA sources confirm the Knicks have offered 5 draft picks, Immanuel Quickley, Julius Randle & Cam Reddish for Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell, Jazz have declined interest in Randle, and I am told the Knicks are not trading RJ Barrett. At no time have talks been serious.
Sources close to the BYU program tell me WR Puka Nacua is available to play tonight, he has been dealing with a hamstring issue, ankle is fine. Kaleb Hayes is also good to go Vs Utah State.
Sources close to the PAC 12 tell me Tulane has emerged as a strong candidate to join the PAC 12, however PAC 12 Presidents are split on the geographic fit, with some feeling Rice is a better fit.
A
#BYU
source tells me they have options to add a game, on several dates including next weekend, but that game has to be on “level terms”. I am told “anything that puts our players and staff, or their hard work and effort this season at risk is not going to be considered”.
Sources at the Utah Jazz say the Jazz and Lakers have had talks around Russell Westbrook, talks have centered around additional compensation from the Lakers who have expressed interest in Bojan Bogdanovic and Jordan Clarkson.
Significant ground to cover to get a deal done.
There is significant frustration with
#ASU
President Crow on the AZBOR. Crow is “stuck in a time machine and unwilling to deal in reality…this is far from a done deal”
PAC 12 Commissioner George Kliavkoff had been talking up his belief that UCLA is staying, his belief the
#BIG12
was worth $20 million per school, that new members were wavering, and that the
#PAC12
was in superior position to the BIG 12 …all of which turned out to be false.
Speaking to sources close to Utah Jazz Center Rudy Gobert, I am told Rudy Gobert has not asked to be traded, now or at any time. My sources also went out of their way to make clear Gobert never said the “him or me trash”.
#TakeNote
The Chicago Bulls are now willing to include Patrick Williams in a deal to acquire Utah Jazz C Rudy Gobert. The Bulls have been unwilling to include Williams for Gobert, but a lack of movement before the draft and leading to free agency has moved Chicago off that position.
Arizona and Arizona State have had conversations this weekend about how to move forward, and what the ramifications of Arizona moving to the BIG 12, while ASU stays in the PAC 12, it is unclear if the BIG 12 is interested in adding ASU, but it is clear ASU would seriously…
A Utah Jazz source tells me the club has received dozens of calls about Donovan Mitchell from just about every team in the league, and has declined to engage in trade conversations. “We have no plan to trade Donovan, it’s that simple”.
#TakeNote
The people saying Utah has indicated in any way they don’t want, or are hesitant to join the BIG 12 are wrong. Since Colorado left Utah has been engaged and expressed interest, and has been working through the process.
Sources tell me Florida State and UNC have had conversations with the
#BIG12
about joining the conference. It is unclear if those talks have any forward momentum, but I am told there were talks as late as August.
Oregon and Washington are clearly aiming at the BIG 10, but they also understand being "stranded" in a 9 team PAC 12 shuts them out of the CFBP and almost certainly damages their brands.
The BIG 12 is an option for sure.
The PAC 12 meeting this morning was a presentation, and those involved agreed not to divulge details of the presentation. I am told there was two distinct sides of the meeting, some excited, others clearly not. No vote was taken because some members asked for time to evaluate the…
Utah Jazz sources tell me the club is targeting Scoot Henderson and Amen Thompson in the draft, and would be willing to give up a first round pick to make that happen. Likely the Jazz would have to trade up to
#2
to guarantee Henderson, 4 to get Thompson. The Jazz value those
Texting with a source at the Utah Jazz regarding Donovan Mitchell. My source went on to say “this is not a story, it’s not new, we said the same thing to the media two days ago”

executives, and some difficult conversations today with George Kliavkoff and members institutions, one source telling me “no confidence is an understatement”
BYU had the opportunity to play Washington this weekend, but turned it down, per
@BruceFeldmanCFB
BYU wanted to wait until after the CFP rankings Tuesday to gauge their place.
Just off the phone with a Mountain West Conference source who did not hold back on San Diego State, and their "antics" over the last six weeks...details on the show in an hour.
It would appear from those I have talked to that ACC members do not appreciate Notre Dame pushing for Stanford and Cal when ND will not fully commit to the ACC …I have heard the word “resent” more than once
In speaking with someone close to the PAC 12, the Apple deal, in addition to a yearly guaranteed payout, has a significant escalator tied to "CPA" or "cost per acquisition", a bonus paid per subscription, which would be uncapped. Meaning the PAC 12 would have to generate…
Sources at
#BYU
tell me BYU and Kalani Sitake are in talks to rework his deal including a significant pay raise and buyout language. Kalani has 3 requests for interviews including USC & LSU, and it is believed Washington is interested in talking to Kalani for their opening.
SMU will not be joining the ACC, according to sources. The ACC is deeply divided and took a significant step back in their meeting this evening, and at this point it seems highly unlikely the league can agree to anything, let alone expansion.
I am told the PAC 12 has not been able to break $25 Million per school in total compensation, in it's negotiations with distribution partners. With the loss of Los Angeles and Southern California on the whole, providing value has been challenging for the PAC 12.
The PAC 12 does NOT have a GOR. I just spoke to a source in the conference who said "the issues we agreed upon were never up for debate, we all know who drives the revenue...This is a PR spin to calm the masses".
As we reported on the show today: Sources at Utah tell us Utah has told the BIG 12 they do not believe they are a fit in the conference academically and believe they would lose significant dollars on the education side if they join the conference.
A PAC 12 administrator on Washington State meeting: “It’s scary to see the reality of our situation playing out on a video feed for the world to see…this is a bad day”
#BREAKING
News: The
#PAC12
arrives at a tragic ending, that is 100% self inflicted! We have details on a wild Arizona Board of Regents meeting that may have changed the fate of Utah and the
#BIG12
! Why was Washington hesitant to join the
#BIG10
? What happens to the
#PAC12
now?
From multiple sources: Utah has NOT ignored or avoided communication with the
#BIG12
, I am told Utah has said they are committed to seeing the
#PAC12
media deal number before taking action.
We have asked Utah for comment through multiple channels with no response.
Amazing phone call with a frustrated communications director in the
#PAC12
who was upset I tweeted about Apple & the PAC 12, who admitted the conference is working to "better control the narrative".
This conference is a mess.
As we reported yesterday, our sources on the Arizona Board of Regents told us there would be another meeting this week specifically to discuss the relationship between ASU & UA ...Well, here it is!
This trade is an unequivocal win for the Utah Jazz. They are now in position with a massive 15 unprotected picks and $62 Million in cap space to build a championship caliber team, any way they see fit.
#TakeNote
There is growing frustration in NBA front offices dealing with Utah Jazz CEO Danny Ainge, sources say Ainge has asked for multiple picks for Malik Beasley and Mike Conley. According to one NBA source, the asking price for Jordan Clarkson is 2 first round picks and a player.
Don't forget to join us at

We will have

TV industry sources tell me currently ESPN and the PAC 12 are "nowhere". Unless the PAC 12 goes back to ESPN to open talks, ESPN is not currently planning on carrying PAC 12 content after 2023.
Ridiculous seeing the "Wisconsin was over-rated" nonsense. They were the
#6
team in the country, period.
#BYU
has beaten 2 of 3 P5 teams they have played, thats a fact. Why try to diminish that?
