Remembering Jimi Hendrix, who we lost on this date in 1970. Micky was able to capture so many beautiful images of Jimi on the Monkees' 1967 summer tour - this is just one of those intimate and candid photos, with Nez in the background! 📸: @TheMickyDolenz1

Another great is gone. Bobby Hart, alongside Tommy Boyce, crafted some of The Monkees' biggest hits and embodied the spirit of their success. His talent, humor, and calmness amidst chaos brought peace to those around him—the eye of the hurricane. Rest in peace, Bobby.

The Monkees’ 11th single, “Good Clean Fun” b/w “Mommy and Daddy” was released in September 1969. 'Rolling Stone' called the flipside "one of their best efforts." Which is your favorite side of this latter-day Monkees 45? 🎶

Said Bobby: “It’s interesting and gratifying to look back these many years later and see that the Monkees are still with us, and they’re still being played somewhere...the records themselves have been staples...they’ll have a life of their own that’ll probably far outlast mine.”

Very sad news to report: Bobby Hart, the songwriting dynamo & half of the duo behind so many Monkees songs, has died. With partner Tommy Boyce, Bobby penned tracks like "I Wanna Be Free," "Last Train to Clarksville," the iconic Monkees theme & more. You will be so missed, Bobby.

Micky: “They got four individuals; they didn’t want a group. A group wouldn’t have worked. If they’d have picked a group…an established group and said, ‘Say, listen, we want you to do a TV show,’ it wouldn’t have worked.”

Peter: “Steve [Stills] called me up and said ‘I just met a guy who’s producing a TV show based on "A Hard Day’s Night" and you ought to go try out.' I walked into the office of Raybert Productions and I thought I was going to say 'Hi, I’m Peter Thorkelson, Steve Stills sent me.’"

Davy: “I was actually at the auditions. I was at Mike’s audition; I was at Peter’s audition. Micky, I wasn’t. Actually, they were supposed to have written the show for me, to start off.”

The four Monkees learned about the auditions a different way but Mike was the only one who saw the infamous ad in the paper. Bob Rafelson: “[Mike] says he applied for the audition because he couldn’t believe anybody could be foolish enough to put an ad like that in the papers."

On September 8 & 9, 1965, 'The Hollywood Reporter' and 'Daily Variety' carried an ad seeking "insane boys" to star in a new TV series. Around 400 young hopefuls, including one Steven Stills, turned up to try their luck.

Remembering the Beatles' manager, Brian Epstein, who passed away today in 1967. Here's @TheMickyDolenz1 and Brian in Feb 1967. Brian: “I think the Monkees have been a great boost to the music industry...When people refer to a group as being the new Beatles, it doesn’t worry me.”
