This event is great for those who don’t race regularly (or never before!) It’s open to all @BritishRowing members, incl. those with the cheap “ROW” membership. If you’re not a member, you can get a cheap “Day Ticket” from BR. Plus we have fantastic cake and a balcony bar!

We want to see rivers free of pollution, so that future generations can continue to enjoy them. We are grateful to @theboatraces (which counted several Lea alumni in their number this year) for bringing this issue to the national press recently.

Our charity’s goal is to get as many East Londoners enjoying our waterways as possible. Last year alone we taught around 400 adults and children to row. But is this sustainable when the state of the river is a threat to our health?

Where it rises in Hertfordshire, it’s a rare and very special sparkling clear chalk stream. By the time it discharges into the Thames, 68km later, it’s chock-full of plastic, sewage, phosphates and chemicals.

The Lea is a major source of drinking water for 9 million people. It’s an important habitat for birds and other wildlife. And it’s used recreationally by thousands of people including rowers, paddlers, anglers, and live-aboard boaters.

A break from usual proceedings to share some pictures from our monthly river clean up expedition. The team managed to pull out 9 sacks of litter - fantastic work, but sadly it barely scratches the surface of pollution on the River Lea.
