In 2007, I was depressed b/c I had been on the acad job mkt for yrs w/o a job to show for it. My late father said to me: "You're the big pot. You hold a lot of water, so you take a while to boil, but when you do, you will cook everything!" When something doesn't go my way...

in terms of YA lit; geography seems to be a marker of how aware folks were about the books; there were several comments that the series is popular amongst those who are home-schooled in Christian settings. Thank you everyone who answered!

I can't keep up w the responses but some general observations: LHOTP seems to have been most influential on GenX (which incl me) and older; the TV show increased awareness about the novels, even if one didn't watch/read either; there are so many more options out there now 1/

In response to my previous tweet, it appears that the series; popularity began to decline around 2008, which is right when my class of college students would have started reading or reading chapter books. Thank you @eleventhjoe !
@TheJuliaHLee Hi Julia, to address your specific question I went to Google books and plugged this in. It looks like around 2008 the use of the book series started to decline.

Did you read the Little House on the Prairie Books as a child and if so, old are you now? I'm teaching a class and none of the students have heard of these titles much less read them. I'm trying to see when these books fell out of favor...

Do you guys remember that tweet or Tumblr post that was like," Charlotte Bronte describing a romantic hero: He is ugly. Hideous. Scowling. Dark. So ugly. You simply cannot believe how ugly this man is. Would curdle milk. SOOOOO UGLY. A truly terrifying countenance. I love him."

Despite the role that it has played in the extermination, disenfranchisement, & exploitation of native and communities of color, the train is nevertheless deeply embedded in the psyches, histories, and cultures of these groups.
