There isn’t a single G6 conference that would be a step down or lateral from Conference USA. In 2024, CUSA had a Massey Rating (6.47) closer to the Missouri Valley Conference (6.34) than the MAC (6.65). Win % vs other conferences:.AAC: 53%.SBC: 52%.MAC: 46%.MWC: 44%.CUSA: 32%.
@theotherJerryLU @SSN_Flames Liberty needs to stay in CUSA. Other G6 conferences don’t make sense, as they’re either side steps or drop downs. I don’t believe they’re ready for a P4 move yet. CUSA is improving slowly, but surely. Just gotta pull a WKU/MT & wait it out until it’s financially responsible.

Louisiana Tech’s greatest value comes in basketball and baseball. Basketball being the greatest weakness of the SBC, baseball being one of the SBC’s best sports. In basketball, LA Tech has won 20+ games in 11 of the last 13 seasons. This is a huge upgrade for the Sun Belt from.

Louisiana Tech has struggled since COVID, going 3-9 in 2021, 2022 and 2023 and 5-7 in 2024. The Skip Holtz era was the Bulldogs’ most successful in the last 20 years. LA Tech won 6 straight bowl games from 2014 to 2019 with three straight 9-win seasons in 2014-16 and a 10-win.

Let’s get this out of the way: I have been very vocal against Louisiana Tech’s addition to the SBC. Nothing against Louisiana Tech, but were about 5-7 better options that would have signified greater ambition from the Sun Belt in this new era of college athletics. This decision.

The Sun Belt would crush the Mountain West even with LA Tech and these random matchups. 8-1, maybe 7-2 in this picture alone, which left out two of the top SBC teams. The MAC would beat the new MWC minus UNLV.

For what it’s worth, I’d say the Sun Belt goes 5-3 at neutral sites with these matchups but I could be persuaded to 6-2 or 4-4.
