With being so ill recently I haven't felt up to filming recently but it's about time I got back to it. And what better way, than slow motion chickens!

Winter the Orpington is hot on the heels of Puffin as a super-broody. She incubated, hatched and raised two clutches in 2025. The first clutch were all Orpingtons. This was the second clutch where she hatched Braekels, French Marans and Partridge Leghorns.

This video was taken in August when Egret the Orpington's chicks were at the "velociraptor" stage. That's when I personally think they look the most like their dinosaur ancestors. To be fair, I should be calling it the "T-Rex" stage as this was their closest relation!

Winter the Orpington was always impatient to get out of the coop with her chicks running ahead. This film was taken back in August, when her chicks were still very young.

When Penny the Partridge Leghorn grew wings, she started exploring height. At 2 weeks old, I found her on one of support bars for the shelter over the sandbath. It was wonderful watching her, seemingly very comfortable so high up in comparison to her miniscule size.

Summer the Orpington was a standout broody hen during this year. As a first year broody, we weren't sure how she would take to brooding but she was a natural. I suppose it's only to be expected as she was hatched and raised by Puffin our super-broody in 2024.

This film was taken way back in the summer when Egret's chicks were only 24 hours old. I know this, because in the video they are surrounded by protective boundary netting. We remove this after 24 hours so they can roam with the flock

Winter the Orpington with her mixed clutch of pure breed chicks including French Marans, Partridge Leghorns and Braekels. This was filmed back in August and continues series of previously unpublished footage (mainly because I have the cold from hell and I'm not up to filming!)

When Beanie the Cream Legbar, Bobble the Exchequer Leghorn and Blue the French Marans, were tiny and Egret the Orpington hatched and cared for them. Part of series showing some of the previously unpublished footage that I took this year.

Continuing our stroll through unpublished footage from this yea. I filmed SO MUCH and just didn't have the time to share it. We are so proud of being able to breed these beautiful chickens in a natural way, using broody hens following the natural seasonal rythmns.

More film that I took earlier in the year. This time it's another of Summer the Orpington with her chicks when they're just over one week old. I have so much footage that I hadn't published, there will be more #chickspam to come!

Summer the Orpington, back in early July thus year with one of her chicks using her as a cushion. Summer's other chicks are underneath her, using her as a hot water bottle 🥰 Don't forget to check out our UK online poultry equipment shop https://t.co/9euLcH98bI

Puffin the Orpington (our super broody), back in August with her 2nd clutch of chicks this year. Puffin is such a gentle soul, amazing broody and quite frankly, we love her 🥰 I have so much unpublished footage from this year, you may get lots of chick spam....

I've been looking back through all my footage from this year and I have quite a bit unpublished, so I might spend a few days compiling and sharing it with you. This goes back to late July when Egret the Orpington and her chicks are exploring around the Dwarf Braeburn apple tree

These are my 3 superstars from the new non-Orpingtons that we hatched this year. The first is a little Braekel rare breed hen, as yet un-named so suggestions are welcome! The next is Beanie, my little Cream Legbar buddy followed by Bobble, the Exchequer Leghorn.

Some weeding in the vegetable beds gave me Chickweed and Goose Grass. Of course, I couldn't let those tasty treats go to waste as the chooks love them 🥰 #chickentreats #gardeningwithchickens #freerangechickens

While the non-Orpingtons leap out of their coops in the morning as though they're going to miss the experience of a lifetime, the Orpington youngsters a little more stately 🥰

It was a beautiful start to the day. Today was a deep clean on the 11 coops in the orchard. A long day and quite intense, but all essential to making sure the team are in tip top comfort and health.
