"This is not your mother's or your grandmother's Narnia. The music in it is unbelievably contemporary music. I’m not gonna say specifically, but things like Pink Floyd and The Doors." —IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond on Greta Gerwig's Narnia

It’s the last bandcamp Friday of the year - a great time to support your favorite artists (especially if they showed up on your wrapped…) What’d you release today? What’d you pick up?

One great thing about going through the various end of year album lists is that even though I don’t end up liking a lot of the music, it still pushes your own internal boundaries and gets you out of your comfort zone

This is the first best score award I’ve seen handed out so far this season, no surprise that Ludwig won for Sinners, it’s going to be the first of many…

Reading an article about Wolfen, where James Horner replaced Craig Safan. Horner comments that Safan's score "would not work on the picture" since there was "nothing to relate to [and no] emotional quality." Pretty rare to see a composer so openly deride the score he's replacing

It’s worth pointing out that QT eventually changed his stance to some extent, since he worked with Morricone on Hateful Eight, which imo cuts against the absolutism of what he says here

Luca's comments about costume design reminds me of Quentin Tarantino's equally harebrained comments a while ago about film composers...

Luca Guadagnino shitting on Costume Design as an art, a discipline, a profession, wasn't on my bingo card for 2025, yet here we are. Glad he likes working with fashion people, but there's no need to denigrate those who do costume first.

Always an interesting conundrum with Star Wars and franchise entries in general. Since Star Wars is one continuity, reusing legacy themes makes more sense than different interpretations of the same character, but still a lot of reasons to go a different direction

John Williams’ Star Wars themes will not be used in STAR WARS: STARFIGHTER, says Shawn Levy. “It’s not going to be remixes of Williams’ cues. It may be inspired by some of that, but I knew I needed a bighearted movie from score from a composer who, like John Williams, doesn’t

Rewatched Fargo, which reminded me how so many people claimed that Michael Fassbender’s character in The Killer was bad at his job. That movie really drummed up a lot of bad discourse

Always enjoy seeing the first set of shortlisted scores as awards season kicks off, before groups have narrowed it down to the same handful (not that these are necessarily surprise picks).
