Chatted with Electric Youth (@_electricyouth) about their score for North of Normal, our mutual love of Tangerine Dream, avoiding being musically pigeonholed, and plenty more. Always love chatting to folks that I've been a fan of for years, what a treat!.

Listening to Jesper Kyd's scores for Warhammer 40k - Darktide and they actually rip so hard; dark, dirty, and groovy music from a grim future

This is also from the first piece of PR I’ve ever received on behalf of A24 Music. Nice to know that they’re finally pushing their releases!.

Idk what gear Blanck Mass uses but he constantly manages to create the most ethereal sounds. There’s some stuff on She Rides Shotgun that’s absolutely sublime.

Re-listening to Eddington and can’t help but laugh at how much of a classic triumphant/heroic western cue “Eddington (Ending)” is, but it’s honoring 2.5 hours of total brainless idiocy, love it so much.

Anyway I only think a handful of the examples could even count, like a Ladyhawke or Legend where the score is such a distinct stylistic choice that if it doesn’t work for you it could kill the experience.

There’s a really interesting comment buried in here questioning whether this is even possible. Essentially you’d need a director to make an otherwise perfect film, but somehow sign-off on a score/soundtrack that’s distractingly abhorrent.

We really need more whistling in film music, adding a sense of romantic adventure at home in a Western or 60s Japanese noir. A Colt Is My Passport - Harumi Ibe

I know this is a very first world problem, but after doing this for a few years I've finally gotten onto the press lists for some bigger distributors/studios and it kills me to constantly get invites to screenings that are only NYC/LA but never Chicago. .

Also the streaming release credits "SIRMG" and "SIDMG" as the rights holders dating to 1998. However, the score was released on CD in 1998 by Sonic Images Records (who haven't issued a release since 2003) and I can't find any info on either SIRMG or SIDMG as record labels.

It’s ridiculous that Giacchino’s Lost World score got released to streaming with an AI cover, when two real covers exist

Seeing that prompt tweet about the worst songs going around, and the responses are all really just overplayed popular songs. Like, have you ever heard a song by brokeNCYDE?.

"[T]he music had to sell the drama, because that’s what makes the comedy land. That contrast — serious music underscoring ridiculous situations — is what makes this world so fun to play in.". Lorne Balfe on scoring The Naked Gun.

The amount of people responding “leitmotifs” is a bit concerning - most modern scores use leitmotifs/thematic materials, many are just quite subtle (try picking out Benoit Blanc’s theme). Shore uses a ton, and does so with complexity, but the music is also just damn good.
