After experimenting with the player instructions, I changed the CDM to 'Stay back while attacking; Cover centre'; the left midfielder and right midfielder are set to 'Come back on defense'; and the GK on 'Come for Crosses; Sweeper Keeper'

The 3-1-4-2 in FIFA has got to be the strangest looking formation I have ever seen. I initially wanted to experiment with the shape that Juventus used in the mid 2010s but what I got was something entirely different.

The base formation is a 3-4-2-1, but it defends as a 4-2-4 with the LCB as the left-back and the RM as the RB.
Why not just use the 4-2-4? The right-back joining the attack is crucial to this tactic, and they were not aggressive enough when joining the attack in the 4-2-4.

TL;DR
It is a 3-1-4-2 that defends as a 4-4-2. It is a possession-based tactic which uses fluid player movement and overloads to create loads of chances.

Uninterrupted gameplay in the 4-5-1.
Shows how it overloads the defense and controls the midfield with the loan CM and a fullback. In these situations, it almost looks like Araujo is playing the new Trent Alexander-Arnold role 👀

The formation is the 3-1-4-2. I used this formation earlier in the game cycle and had loads of fun with it. EA finally changed its presentation from the weird mess it was before, and it now resembles what you would picture if you heard “3-1-4-2”.

In FIFA, the central midfielders start much wider than they do in any other formation. In the image below, the central midfielders are shown to be the players closest to the strikers. We will use this to our advantage.

The formation is a 5-2-1-2.
Where not shown, a player's instructions are the same as a player in a similar position. For example, RCB and LCB; LWB and RWB.
Unfortunately, there is no way to replicate Edmilson's role as a Libero so we play a flat 3.

Defensively, we want the centre backs to remain compact while waiting for support to arrive. It also encourages the central midfielders to actually move centrally to defend. 35 width works perfectly for this.
Playing a high line with a back 3 is suicide so I went with 50 depth.

Over four days, I opened 133 bronze packs. This amounts to 99,750 worth of bronze packs.
I listed 496 items, selling 362 of them and getting back 96,450 coins in return. I basically spent 3K for 134 items.

In attack, the width is set to 70 because the formation is very narrow in-game. With it set this way, the players do not hug the line but are about as wide as they would be in the 4-2-2-2 formation.
Chance creation is set to 'Possession' and players in box is set to 4 bars.

At least the lower and mid-level TOTS players were easier to pack in other leagues.

In attack, the formation is a crazy, offensive 3-1-4-2 and in defence, it is a 4-4-2 with the right midfielder slotting into the right back position. Honestly, I have no clue why it defends in a 4-4-2 and not a back 5 but I love it
