Trigger warning: discussion of pregnancy loss In the emergency department, patients often arrive trapped in the **“what if” cycle**— “What if I lose this baby?” “What if I can’t walk again?” “What if this pain never stops?” Top-of-scope care means meeting them there.

We are heartbroken by the loss of Senator Faith Winter. Her passing leaves an enormous void in Colorado, and in the physical therapy community she fought so hard to support. Colorado is better because of her.

Red flags aren’t always stop signs. They’re signals—context, nuance, spectrum. Top-of-scope care means knowing when to pause, when to proceed, and when to collaborate. It’s not about fear—it’s about framework. Stop getting hung up on red flags. Everything is a spectrum. #EDPT

She was medically *stable*—but functionally **wrecked.** That’s where top-of-scope care begins. Because in the ED our job isn’t just to discharge—it’s to **equip.** Every patient deserves more than stability. They deserve the ability to move, to live, to go home ready.

The face you make when someone says, “Can you really do that in your scope?” Practicing at the top of scope isn’t just a clinical mindset — it’s an advocacy strategy. It’s how we elevate systems, empower clinicians, and expand what’s possible for patients and providers.

We need your vision, your innovation, and your voice. Keep showing up, keep turning up with your audacity, your desire for change, your thoughts about what it could be and we'll eventually figure it out. But if we keep saying no, we'll never move forward. Be loud. #Topofscope
