While yes this is super shitty to say and do i would like to try an put a positive spin on it. Most restaurants do automatic gratuity for parties of 8 or more so she probably already received either 18 or 20% gratuity and then the additional 20 I hope this is the case...

One time I was at a diner, with my ex and his mom,back when fidget spinners were just starting to trend we picked some up for the kids but we had grabbed an extra and he was talking about how much he wanted one so we tipped him 20% and the extra spinner and his face lit up

Reminds me of a group of 15 people who didn’t call ahead, we were a coffee shop that serves food, so only one person making EVERYTHING. That made the wait time for others exceed 15 minutes. They were particular, everything had modifications. They didn’t tip.
