A little bit late but
@_kylamarshall_
and I are excited to be moving down to Texas as I will be joining the staff at Stephen F Austin as a Defensive Assistant!

Fun fact: Alamosa gets roughly 285 sunny days each year. So even as the seasons change, you can expect many beautiful days here at Adams State and along the Rio Grande!

Rewind… I enjoyed my brief time with the Lumberjacks at SFA but my wife and I are excited to announce that we’ll be rejoining the staff at Adams State as I’ll be the TEs coach for the Grizzlies!

It’s been great to hit the course and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Colorful Colorado but I’m excited to get Fall Camp rolling in just a few weeks! Time to Compete!! ⛰️🏌🏻

Super excited for every guy who is signing today. Any opportunity to continue playing football is a blessing.
And for the guys that aren’t signing today, that’s okay! Make sure you find the school and program that fits you best!
Since I'm not busy recruiting, if any coaches wanna talk ball I'd love to hop on a Zoom to talk and share ideas. Just shoot me a message, so we can set up a time!

A5: One of the hardest things for our young guys to learn is to be physical. Over the course of the last year, some of them got better about it but it is still something that we need to improve on.
#NFZCHAT
Had a freshman dunk on the goalpost after a TD in our JV game tonight. As a coach, I didn’t appreciate the 15 yards he cost us, but as a spectator, I can’t lie... it was pretty cool!
Loving yourself requires discipline and conviction to do what is right! Do your actions show that you are loving yourself by doing what is BEST for you or are you only doing what you WANT to do?

A2: Last year we were static pre snap but after having issues and also listening to
@coach_harvey18
, we will definitely incorporate late pre snap movement. What we do in practice really depends on what we have been struggling with and what we’ll see from other teams.
#NFZCHAT
Twitter is amazing! I can tweet out a question and all sorts of brilliant coaches from all over the country can chime in and give me some input or provide resources that help me out... Really helpful for a young coach like me!
ASU Baseball Head Coach Willie Bloomquist gave his thoughts on where he and his team stand heading into Opening Night this Friday against SDSU at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
@CronkiteSports
@NoFlyZoneChat1
A2: We will always start indy time with M-drill. It gets our feet going and it lets them know it’s DB time. From there it varies but many of our drills are variations of each other so we can work the same skills without getting bored.
#NFZCHAT
Grow and develop every day!! Whether you’re working on yourself, relationships with others, or the team around you, GROW! Not for self-gain but to be a blessing to those around you!

@NoFlyZoneChat1
A3: We will introduce a few different techniques and let the kids decide what they feel comfortable with. Last year we had a former soccer kid who showed press every snap because he was uncomfortable backpedaling
#NFZCHAT
Only had one QB show up to run route after school today so I had to break out the cannon... What I’m really trying to say is I can’t move my shoulder and I really need to get the other QB out there lol.
@NoFlyZoneChat1
A1: Last year I taught every coverage out of both press and off and gave kids the freedom to choose. Only had one kid utilize it outside of the red zone.
#NFZCHAT
Glad I was able to make it out to
@NikeCOYPDX
this year! Saw a lot of familiar faces, met some new ones, and heard from a lot of great coaches! The PNW is in good hands!
@NoFlyZoneChat1
A4: Quarters was used as more of a “prevent” coverage for us last year. Looking to implementing a check to quarters if one of the safeties needs help in C2, word to
@The_Coach_A
#NFZCHAT
@CoachRagland919
@NoFlyZoneChat1
Not really, we stayed in the same Pre-snap look just about every time. We played off the line more than I would’ve liked in C2 and we struggled to get hands on and disrupt the WR.
@JesseFrisinger
We’ve got the beach, the desert, and the forest all within an hour drive, it’s super green, and I’m sure
@kdawgswift
can back me up when I say the fishing isn’t bad!
@NoFlyZoneChat1
A5: my go-to is almost always
@The_Coach_A
. He has a lot of knowledge and also does a great job of putting out a lot of content to look through. I’m just starting to be active again on Twitter so I didn’t get to a chance to participate much this year😅
#NFZChat
@NoFlyZoneChat1
A1: Every DB in our program practices together at the same time, so the younger kids are learning everything that the older kids are but I will stress the details more with older kids.... If there is a kid that I feel can handle learning more then I’ll teach them individually.
@NoFlyZoneChat1
A4: I think most every drill can be worthwhile. It just depends on your primary scheme, techniques, and player skill sets. What works well for some team might not work for us and vice versa
#NFZCHAT
Drill: Xplosive Box 💥
Purpose: Reaction/Qkness 🐇
Technique(s): Drop Step/Hd Whip 💆🏾♂️
Indicator: Coach 🏈
(No cones. Why? There are no cones on GameDay!)
Details, Details, DETAILS‼️

🏁
@NoFlyZoneChat1
Curious as to what other coaches’ thoughts are on giving the offense a static look vs stemming and late movement to disguise coverages.
A1: The big thing is normally making sure our fundamentals are sound and we are good at every technique needed in our base defense. We’ll keep it simple early to get good at what’s most important
#NFZChat
@mattarrufat
@NoFlyZoneChat1
A3: Every Wednesday we will eat lunch as a group. During lunch we will watch film, go over the previous week, and go more in depth on the gameplan from when we meet as a team on Monday. Anything that needs to be addressed gets addressed during this time.
#NFZCHAT
@NoFlyZoneChat1
A1: Spending time with them outside of football; Going to their other sporting events and finding time to do things as a DB group. Being in the school helps a lot too since you see them every day.
#NFZChat
Love is an action and oftentimes requires you to do things that are against personal gain.
Do your actions show that you LOVE YOUR TEAMMATES and you LOVE FOOTBALL? Or are you only concerned with your own interests?
#LoveHard
@NoFlyZoneChat1
A1:
3 categories: Alignment, Assignment, Effort
Keep it simple, each category gets a + or - (can earn a ++ for outstanding plays)
#NFZCHAT
@CoachJayWilson
A4a: Man- hand on near hip watch WR eyes and hands, playing through WR hands
Zone- watching QB shoulders
4b: If we’re out of phase, we’re racing to catch up, no looking back
4c: underneath route, we’re driving the route before we look for ball
#NFZCHAT
@mattarrufat
@NoFlyZoneChat1
A1: DBs were hardly ever used in run force and pass rush last year. Would like to convince the rest of the staff to use more weak side safety and boundary CB blitzes though.... in that situation I would probably max cover.
#NFZCHAT
@mattarrufat
@NoFlyZoneChat1
A6: After week 1, the only things getting put in are specific adjustments based on what opponents may be doing... Last year we lacked varsity experience so there was less freedom than I would like to give this upcoming season.
#NFZCHAT
@NoFlyZoneChat1
A4:
Effort... the other categories reflect my ability to prepare them and can be corrected, but if the effort’s not there, they don’t need to be on the field.
#NFZCHAT
A1: I’ve been looking at big plays both for us and the offense as well as missed opportunities for big plays, primary looking at what went wrong that we need to fix and things we did well that we can improve on.
#NFZCHAT
@RLeonhardt13
@Coach_C_Petty
@NoFlyZoneChat1
Appreciate the feedback coaches! Our D stayed in the same pre snap look mostly this year whether it was C2, C3, etc. and it made it difficult for our guys to get in good position at times.
Curious if you guys have any coaching points or cues to help players with late movement?
@mattarrufat
@NoFlyZoneChat1
A4: Primarily just identify most used pass concepts and where the “star” is, if any... For grading, use a 0-1 scale for each play... either you did your job or not. Will give a 2 for Takeaways. Final grade is a percentage out of points possible and takeaway percentage
#NFZCHAT
@NoFlyZoneChat1
A2: Haven’t done much talking with others yet but have read
@The_Coach_A
and
@JerryGordonFB
books. Hoping to connect and learn from other coaches on Twitter and talk to our old DC on ways to improve our execution and create more turnovers!!
#NFZChat
@CoachJayWilson
A2a: WR jump, if he’s slow off ball, peek inside and be ready to help with run
2b: Opening up is a feel thing in off-man. No punch but we’ll reach across and tap opposite thigh to subtly slow WR down
2c: Same speed pedal, nothing is gonna hurt underneath in an off-man situation
@CoachJayWilson
A1a: Eyes on hips cueing on “crossover step” from WR to open up
1b: Motor Mirror for sure
1c: Patience, guys feel uncomfortable being that close to the WR sometimes and want to open up too soon
#NFZCHAT
Coaches, as someone who guides/helps/teaches young athletes do you feel the need to maintain some sort of fitness level?
As a 20 year old, I personally feel the need to stay in shape so I can show the kids that I can still keep up with them lol.
@NoFlyZoneChat1
A2:
I’ll send individual grades to each player but also make all grades available to everyone so that each player can see examples of good plays and poor plays throughout the game.
#NFZCHAT
@CoachRagland919
@NoFlyZoneChat1
For next year I’m wanting to have a lot more last second movement where we can show C3/C4 and come up and press and vice versa.
@NoFlyZoneChat1
A3: We introduced it but didn’t really use it. One kid used it a lot though because he was more comfortable bailing from the line than BPing
#NFZCHAT
@NoFlyZoneChat1
A5:
Love MatchQuarters!
Too many podcasts to name them all but I listened to a few
@MDGAPodcast
on my flights yesterday.
@NikeCOYPDX
is the only clinic I have planned at this moment but hoping to find a few others that I can make!
