Likewise, we urge the government to increase investment in nature-based solutions, such as wetlands, which play a crucial role in reducing flood risk and supporting biodiversity.⬇️

However, we would like to see stronger commitments to properly fund catchment partnerships so they can help to restore river ecosystems, enhance biodiversity, and improve water quality.⬇️

We are also pleased to see recognition of the power of catchment partnerships. This is a proven way to bring communities, councils, charities, and businesses together to tackle water challenges.⬇️

💦There needs to be concerted efforts to protect rivers across London and The Thames Basin from the damage caused by sewage, road runoff, plastic pollution, agricultural pollution, and the threat of droughts and floods brought on by the climate emergency.⬇️

Thames21 has long called for greater investment in sewage treatment and infrastructure to stop pollution at its source. We will keep calling for sustained investment to remain high in order for the water sector to meet the challenges of climate change and land use.⬇️

Key positive actions include the reiteration of securing private investment for sewerage infrastructure and the creation of a new water regulator to take firmer action against polluters.⬇️

🌊We’re still working our way through the government’s new Environmental Improvement Plan.🍃 In reviewing the plan so far, we’re pleased to see strong commitments to long-term river restoration. H/r, delivery of the plan must now be accelerated with real ambition.🧵⬇️
