In Texas during the past two decades (2004-2024), the share of younger age groups (0–24) declined considerably, while that of middle-aged groups (30–44) kept relatively stable. The population is aging overall, as evidenced by the rise in older age groups (55+).

The median household income has not kept up with the cost of housing in TX. Population growth, rising costs for building materials, and labor shortages have affected the supply of homes and increased their cost, making it difficult for many Texans to purchase and own a home.

More than half (55.1%) of the 11.26 million households in Texas are couple households, and a vast majority are married couple households. Opposite-sex, cohabitating couples comprise 6% of households, and same-sex couples make up less than 1% of households.

The @uscensusbureau estimates show Texas leads the nation in city growth rates. Princeton tops the list with a 30.6% increase, followed by Fulshear (27%) and Celina (18.2%). 10 of the top fastest-growing U.S. cities are in Texas.

Data from the U.S. Census Bureau highlights the rich diversity of Texas’ Asian population. From 2019–2023, Asian Indians were the largest group, with an estimated 544,641 residents, followed by the Vietnamese and Chinese (except Taiwanese) populations.

Population growth drove housing demand and costs in TX, raising median home values by 72% since 2013. Among the largest MSAs, Dallas-Ft. Worth-Arlington saw the highest percentage increase at 87%. Addressing housing affordability is crucial for the state's economic growth.

In 2023, women living alone or without a spouse accounted for 37% of Texas households and faced a higher rental cost burden (spent >=30% of gross income on rent). Among these groups, 65% of single women and 62% of women without a spouse experienced rental cost burden.
