“We also have sewage spilling into public spaces. As African people in KwaZulu-Natal, we strongly believe in indigenous practices, and now part of our biodiversity is being affected by the waste,” she adds.

Stats SA data reveal that in 2025, about 8.15 million people in South Africa are estimated to be living with HIV, representing roughly 12.9% of the country’s total population. Among people aged 15 to 49, the group most affected, the HIV prevalence rate is estimated at 18.1%.
