🚨 Key reminders: ❌ PCOM is NOT recommended for adolescent PCOS diagnosis. ❌ Do NOT order both USS & AMH—this risks overdiagnosis and unnecessary medicalization. Let’s use evidence-based approaches to improve PCOS care!

🔹 USS is still the gold standard for PCOM—thresholds are clearly defined. 🔹 AMH can be a proxy, but no universal cutoffs exist, and levels vary by lab, age, BMI, meds & surgery. 🔹 AMH is useful when USS isn’t feasible, like when transvaginal USS isn’t an option.

Yes, excess body weight can be an important health risk factor, and addressing it is essential—but how we talk about weight matters. Conversations should be supportive, non-judgmental, and focused on health—not shame.

#Weight #stigma is a serious issue in healthcare, particularly in #PCOS, #obesity, and #diabetes. It leads to patients feeling unheard, dismissed, and reluctant to seek care. As health professionals, we must be aware of this and do better.

Many people with #PCOS are told, 'Just lose weight.' ❌ 🚫 PCOS is NOT caused by weight. It is influenced by genetics and epigenetics. 🚫 This kind of advice places unfair blame on patients. Weight gain in PCOS is a result of metabolic and hormonal imbalances—not personal failure

PCOS research is evolving, and every step brings us closer to better care. The takeaway? You’re not powerless in your journey—taking care of your health before pregnancy can have lasting benefits, even if we don’t yet have all the answers.

Animal models help us understand mechanisms, but translating findings to humans takes time. While this study is exciting, more research is needed. However, it reinforces an important message: preconception health matters.

A recent study in mice suggests that caloric restriction before pregnancy may prevent the inheritance of PCOS-like traits in offspring. Reduced body fat, improved glucose tolerance, restored insulin secretion, and normalised reproductive traits were observed in offspring mice.

Confused about #PCOS diagnosis? The #2023PCOSGuidelines simplify things. ❗️Adults: 2 of 3 criteria (ovulatory dysfunction, hyperandrogenism, PCOM/elevated AMH) ❗️Teens: Ovulatory dysfunction + hyperandrogenism Early detection = improved health! #WomensHealth #Endocrinology

#PCOS is so much more than a fertility issue. It’s a complex hormonal disorder that can impact metabolism, mental health, and long-term health risks. Women with PCOS deserve more than being reduced to their #reproductive potential. #PCOSAwareness #WomensHealth #PCOSAdvocacy
