Restoration of blanket bog: In first picture, vertical strips in bog are the drainage channels with dams for regulating water level. In last picture, you can see a clear dam picture constructed with bale of vegetation and peat

Drainage exploited these important ecosystem followed by erosion and lost more than 1 m depth of peat at various sections of the bog.

Always read about Blanket bogs, but today I visited one with Prof. Chris Freeman and learned the real difference. #Migneint #blanketbog
