Moorhen.Gallinula chloropus.Cearc uisce. AKA Waterhen. There’s lots of birdlife on the LHDParklands lake in #Newbridge. Adult upperparts are dark brown, it's bill is red with a yellow tip, yellow-green legs & long toes. Feeds on plants, insects, seeds, fruit, tadpoles & more.

#Butterfly.Large White.Pieris Brassicae.Bánóg Mhór. A resident species, with larger areas of black on the wing tips than the Small White. Cabbage plant is one of its foodplants. Adults seen in active flight in many habitats. Two generations annually. It has a pale dusty underside

#Dragonfly.Common Darter.Sympetrum striolatum.Sciobaire Coiteann. Frequents shallow pools, ponds, still or stagnant watercourses & perches in sunlight on waterside plants June / October. Colour varies from yellow-brown to orange-red. Wing spot colour varies. Áilleacht an dúlra!

Coot.Fulica atra.Cearc cheannann. There’s lots of birdlife on the LHDParklands lake in #Newbridge. Introducing the #Coot family or in Irish Cearc cheannann (the hen with a blaze on its forehead). Feeds on lakeside plants, but also feeds on seeds, insects, algae & small fish.

Peacock.Inachis io.Péacóg. Spectacular in appearance & colour this #butterfly is relatively large & easily recognisable by its large eye-spots on its hind-wings. The underside is a dullish brown & it’s fairly widespread & hibernates through the winter. Áilleachtaí an dúlra!
