Hallowe’en - OĂche Shamhna Loud bangers, bonfires, fireworks etc. can be distressing & potentially fatal for animals & birds including household pets, wildlife generally & farm animals. So let’s celebrate without having a negative effect on our environment. @WildlifeKildare

Thanks to our scarifying crew who took on the job of scarifying the #Wildflowermeadow in the #LiffeyLinearPark this morning. All scraped grasses were used as mulch around apple & other fruit trees. We will add some #yellowrattle to parts of this site later this week. Thanks.

Rose Hips MogĂłir RĂłis The #berries of the Dog Rose (Rosa canina, Feirdhris). A native plant with pink or white 5 petalled flowers with a cluster of yellow stamens in summer - however now in autumn, the fruity red hips abound. #WildflowerHour

Spotted on a roadside footpath here on the Southern Orbital Relief Road in #Newbridge this week - a totally unexpected but wonderful display of Shaggy Inkcap #Fungi Then the same cluster two days later! #WildflowerHour

Snowberry Symphoricarpos albus PĂłirĂn sneachta Pink funnel-shaped 5 petalled flowers from June. Followed by clusters of round white berries (which are poisonous to humans). This plant is introduced & considered invasive. Now its #Berries abound. #WildflowerHour

Autumn Crocus Colchicum Giant An Autumn flowering mauve-pink coloured flower with white centre. Naturalises easily, its foliage emerges in spring. Two side by side flowering on Main St. this week. #WildflowerHour

There are many types of #Fungi in Ireland. The main part of a fungus (Fungais) is below ground. A Mushroom (muisiriĂşn) is what you see above ground & may only last a few days. Many Fungi feed on dead material - these on woodland trees. #FungiFriday

Common Poppy Papaver rhoeas Cailleach dhearg Spotted growing along roadway here in #Newbridge during the week. In Summer often spotted in cornfields & quite common on disturbed or “waste” ground. Deep scarlet petals with a dark centre, flowering now. #WildflowerHour
