On this day 75 years ago, TTI was founded — and today, we close out our anniversary campaign honoring decades of progress in transportation. From our beginnings in 1950 to today, TTI’s work shapes how Texans and the world move safely and efficiently every day. #TTI75.

TTI was also recognized for its commitment to workforce development and its growing role in supporting transportation planning across Texas. From electric vehicle testing to big data applications, TTI continued to drive solutions for the state’s most complex mobility challenges.

The institute opened a new headquarters at the Texas A&M-RELLIS Campus, led national efforts in V2X deployment and continued shaping safer, smarter transportation systems through real-world innovation.

In the 2010s and 2020s, TTI expanded its leadership in connected and automated vehicle research, advanced crash testing and innovative mobility planning. #TTI75

This era also marked the beginning of TTI’s work in connected and automated vehicles, pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure and sustainable transportation planning — laying the groundwork for safer, smarter and more resilient mobility systems.

Our research on managed lanes, congested corridors and congestion management plans helped cities implement more efficient, multimodal strategies.

In the 2000s, TTI led efforts to enhance urban mobility by focusing on congestion reduction, freight efficiency and public transit innovations. #TTI75

How can we plan for safer walking and biking in Texas?. TTI developed a data-driven tool to help @TxDOT identify where Shared Use Paths are most needed — estimating potential pedestrian and bicycle demand before construction begins. 🔗: Video by @TTITAMU

Through early research in transportation data collection tools and analytics, the institute contributed to the development of traffic signal optimization systems that effectively alleviated congestion in urban areas. #TTI75.

The 1990s marked a pivotal shift toward emerging transportation technologies, with TTI at the forefront of advancing intelligent transportation systems to enhance traffic management.

The decade’s contributions laid a critical foundation for the safer roadways we rely on now. #TTI75.

TTI’s work helped shape national standards for roadside equipment, with many of its designs still in use today. Researchers also advanced crash analysis methods and signage systems aimed at reducing the severity of crashes and improving driver guidance.
