Top #FIGJAM * post from someone who has probably never spent a day on a #Farm in his life, knows nothing about #Farming and probably views Rural areas as development opportunities. By the way, your taxes are paying for him to advise on #InheritanceTax . * F— I’m Good Just Ask Me

Spotted these Oak Apple Galls (I think), caused by the #Oak Apple Gall #Wasp (Biorhiza pallida), on an ~8 year old Oak in our Queen’s Green Canopy (⁦@QGCanopy⁩) roundel planted in the Outer Park here. Amazing to see so much life, growth, diversity in a small patch.

Hummingbird Hawk-moth ❤️ Phlox. A visitor to the UK from Southern Europe, common in South of 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 but rarer to see in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿. Another example of what an exceptional year this has been for #Insects here, both in terms of numbers and variety. #Meiklewood #Moths .#WalledGarden #Garden

#Beavers’ activity now shown given the drop in the water; the nibbled Willow which they could easily access from the water when the #RiverForth was high… and also what is left of the Dam in the middle of the stream. Huge numbers of #Insects (see the fish rises). #Meiklewood

Another disappointing crowd for #ENGvIND W match, this time at a prime venue, Old Trafford. ✅ Top quality oppo.✅ Timing good for school hols.✅ Series absolutely “alive” at 1-2 (about to be 1-3 though). ✅ tickets from £13 for adults and £5 for kids. Why so few?. #Cricket

#ThickTrunkTuesday : This is not a massive #AshTree, or should I say, this was not a massive tree when it had all limbs before the dreaded die-back. But it carries on, even with a tunnel at the base of the #tree . Hares hide there if it rains hard. #Bee hive in middle.

9 #Hares on the outfield & boundary edge of the MCG (Meiklewood #Cricket Ground, not that wee patch in Melbourne). They always love the short grass but what an outstanding year for #Hare breeding. Sadly, it means I will need to check gate locks because they will attract poachers.

#BeeHotel now completely enveloped by this very busy #Wasp nest. Here’s the rub; sad that the Solitary #Bees will not emerge….…but the nest is beside the Rose beds and it is noticeable that there are hardly any greenfly/aphids thanks to the wasps. #HelpfulPredators #Garden

#ThickTrunkTuesday - a long dead #Oak that is still very alive with so many #insects. Masses of #wasps and solitary #bees. Hence so many #birds love to search about it and obviously it is a favourite of drum-rolling woodpeckers. #Trees #DeadTrees

Barn #Owl Box count here; the Owlets are so sweet. Male has the paler face v Females have more colour (and notably heavier). Females have a line of dots along inner wing, Males don’t. Seems to be at least 2 of 5/6 hatched have survived the last 4-5 weeks. Impact of strong winds?

These Solomon’s Seal #Sawfly larvae have almost completely eaten themselves out of their own home. Yes, they look like caterpillars but really are larvae of sawfly, which is a type of #wasp in the order Hymenoptera (not Lepidoptera, like true #butterflies and #moths).

Wild Mustard is dominating the Wild Bird Plot and Robber Flies (I think?) seem to be the dominant #Insect and there were loads of them. They must be feeding on something but I didn’t see what.
