DID YOU KNOW: In the 1600s and 1700s, the beaver hat craze in Europe drove exploration and settlement in North America. The Hudson’s Bay Company, founded in 1670, became one of the most powerful trading companies in history—its wealth was built almost entirely on beaver pelts.

Tuning Tip - Dog Notch Filing.Over time, the dog notch on a trap can get rounded, causing misfires. File a crisp, flat edge so the pan holds steady and fires clean. 📍 Pro Tip: A small triangle file works best, don’t over-file!.#furbearers #trapping #traptuning. PC: Hunter-ed

Did You Know? In 1703, 1 beaver pelt was the “dollar” of the fur trade—worth 6 knives, 10 lbs of pork, a shirt, or 2 pints of gunpowder. You could also swap it for 8 mink, 1 otter, 1 bear, or half a moose hide. #FurTradeFacts #TrappingHistory

Tuning Tip: Check chain links for excessive play; add swivels or shorten the chain to reduce clank. Wax or dye traps to help muffle metal-on-metal sound. Bed solidly in the ground so there’s no wiggle or squeak when pressed. Use trap jaw padding (thin rubber strips or pan covers)

Tuning Tip Tuesday: Jaw Alignment.Check.Even a new trap can have slight jaw misalignment. Uneven jaws = poor holding power. Fix: Use a flat surface to spot unevenness. Light.tapping or filing can correct the issue. Tip: Good trap maintenance means fewer losses. #trapping #fur
