Fun Fact - In 2003, the BBC World Service conducted a global poll to find the "World's Top 10 Songs." Vande Mataram was voted #2 in the entire world (beating huge pop hits), with over 155 countries participating in the vote. #VandeMatram

His exact words were that Vande Mataram "shall be honored equally with Jana Gana Mana and shall have equal status with it" because of the historic part it played in the freedom struggle.

On January 24, 1950, Dr. Rajendra Prasad (India’s first President) made the final call. He declared Jana Gana Mana as the National Anthem and Vande Mataram as the National Song.

However, the later stanzas were dedicated to Goddess Durga. To ensure every Indian—regardless of religion—could sing it with pride, they decided to adopt only the first two stanzas as the National Song.

Why do we only sing the first two paragraphs? The original poem is much longer. In 1937, a committee (including Nehru and Bose) asked Tagore for advice. Tagore noted that the first two stanzas were a beautiful, secular tribute to the "Motherland" (rivers, orchards, moonlight).

We often associate the National Anthem with Rabindranath Tagore, but he had a huge role in the National Song too. He was actually the first person to set Vande Mataram to music and sang it publicly for the first time at the 1896 session of INC in Calcutta.

It was the battle cry of the "Sanyasi Rebellion" in the book, where monks fought against injustice.

Did you know Vande Mataram wasn't originally written as a song? It was a poem in Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s famous novel, Anandamath (published in 1882). But the poem itself was likely written earlier, around 1875—making this year its 150th Anniversary.

#VandeMataram is not just a song, it is a source of inspiration that awakens people towards their duties.” As we mark the 150th Anniversary of this national treasure, let’s look back at the fascinating story behind the lyrics that defined a movement.

Humming works because air flows out through the nose and makes the vocal cords vibrate. When the nose is blocked, the airflow stops. No airflow means no vibration, and no sound. This is how small observations help us understand cause and effect. #TCTC #CriticalThinking

We often think of #Geography as "fixed." #Mountains are here, #oceans are there. But this proves the Earth is fluid. A dead ocean from the #dinosaur era is literally shaping the gravity of the ocean we sail today. The past isn't just history. It’s physics. #IISc #TCTC #Science

It’s the "Ghost of an Ancient Ocean." 👻 Cold, dense slabs of the #TethysSea (which existed 200 million years ago) are sinking into the #Earth's mantle, dragging the magma down and creating this gravity "vacuum."

It is the largest #gravitational #anomaly on the planet. And it’s right in our backyard. Prof. Attreyee Ghosh and her team at IISc didn't look up at the stars; they looked down. Using supercomputer models, they found the culprit 1,000 km underground.

Imagine sailing across the ocean. Suddenly, without noticing, you are sailing downhill. This is the #IndianOceanGeoidLow. Because gravity is weaker here, the water isn't pulled as hard, creating a massive "#depression" in the ocean surface.
