Yesterday 4 people died due to Lightning in #Virudhunagar. Every year, >5000 die in India. This thread is about Lightning precaution & busting myth. Many think, people die due to direct lightning strike, but most of the death happens due to the concept called step potential 1/10

Mekedatu project will kill already dying Cauvery. Karnataka is keep increasing the water use case of Cauvery. >90% of Bengaluru drinking water comes from Cauvery. KA govt refused to diversify water source of the city. One drought will get city to the street. 6/6

There is no assurance for Tamil Nadu on the rejection/stalling of Mekedatu project. Similarly KA also doesn't have assurance of dam. It is the politics that will decide. It will ensure both state fight. Cauvery doesn't need new dam, we need to protect the river 5/6

5. Nothing stop CWMA from approving the project with majority vote despite the opposition TN & PY. Though by law TN & PY consensus is required but they are 1000+ loopholes 6. In India, political compulsion always triumphs, the legal process can be bent. Justice is a comedy 4/6

2. CWMA has nine members, 5 appointed my central govt, 4 members appointed by state govt of TN, KA, KL, and PY (one each) 3. Though CWMA decision making process requires consensus incl consent of Tamil Nadu & PY 4. Consensus is required but not mandatory in paper 3/4

Positive -2 : CWC assured in SC that it will only proceed after the approval of CWMA & CWRC. It will not unilaterally allow dam project. Deeply concerning aspects are : 1. SC now put the issue back to CWMA & CWRC. These paper tiger organisations were given the power to decide 2/4

Current happenings in the Mekedatu dam issue is both positive and very deeply concerning. Positives 1. SC assured not to unilaterally pass any order on the dam. Indian top court has a habit of passing sweeping order's. It unilaterally reduced TN water share unscientifically 1/4

I donot know whom to blame, Highway dept didnot wanna acquire more land, it is difficult in India. Environmentalist want to save trees, since its rare ecosystem. People want road but refuse to give land. Things stagnated as it is with narrow road, resulting in many accident 3/3

600+ grown Banyans trees in a single location is very rare, they supports local ecosystem (birds..etc). Local environmentalist & NGT want to save that from highway expansion. But highways dept was slow in working on alternative, case went on for years. Many died in accident 2/3

Mirjaguda bus accident on NH-163 killed 20 in Telangana is a pure governance failure. NGT halted 4-lane expansion to save 700+ Banyan trees, demanded alt plan. Highways dept didnot act/respond. Just hours post-accident, NGT lifted the ban. Now both trees & lives both gone 1/2

A year ago, we set out on a mission to make people fall in love with nature. With Trek Tamil Nadu, that spark has grown into a movement. More than 15,500 people have now walked the pristine trails of TN and remarkably, one-third are women trekkers leading the way. What started as

TN Forest team spots Golden Jackals thriving in the mangroves of Pichavaram, a powerful sign of a healthy ecosystem. Mangroves are magical as they protect our coasts, support fisheries, store carbon and provide vital habitat for wildlife. Saving them is our priority #TNForest

In any sane country, the whole upper management will be fired for mismanaging an airport. In the past, portion of the terminal left unused due to poor planning. From customs to airport operation, everything designed to irritate customer as much as possible. Chennai deserve better

Passengers at #Chennai Airport waiting for their turn to board buggies to reach cab pick up point in the second floor of a building located elsewhere. They have to join another queue to get into lifts there. The earlier system was much better ⁦@aaichnairport#TamilNadu
