Between 2015 & 2019 we made interventions to cure thousands of people of #blindness and severe visual impairment. Whilst our focus moves toward finding an affordable, accessible & scalable solution, it's important not to forget our history of achievements:

#XP affects every part of the body. Scarring of the #cornea makes vision foggy, which then leads to tumours. The cornea can also become devoid of blood vessels, culminating in a loss of #vision that can only be corrected by corneal transplant. Watch more:

Ameer & Sadiya needed cornea transplants for both eyes. Doctors were unable to come up with a solution & referred them to specialists where Ameer & Sadiya were handed a lifeline: a life-changing cornea transplant. Watch their story:

Sadiya received her @TKCorneaInst #cornea transplant in 2018. With her vision restored she hopes to start going back to school. If Sadiya had not received #surgery before cornea damage became permanent, she would have irreversibly lost her vision. More at:

@TKCorneaInst has created 15 new #grants with @KohliFoundation + @mrtejkohli to fund scientists, technologists, ophthalmologists, doctors & researchers who can help eliminate corneal #blindness: @BritishAcademy_ @royalsociety @RAEngNews @acmedsci @RCOphth.

To eliminate corneal blindness worldwide by 2035 will require large-scale solutions that are affordable, accessible and scalable in all communities. That’s why for 2020 @TKCorneaInst is launching a multidisciplinary global hub in the UK for the development of new #tech solutions:
