Vanek wouldn’t be an immediate needle-mover, but he has 3rd Rd Pick pedigree, great shot, and uses his big frame well. He’s got the skill and upside to be a good power forward. He’s the best forward on that list and a good fallback if they don’t get Fitzhenry or Schneider.

If Wendt would be willing to come in next year, back up Luca and compete for more starts going forward that would be incredible. But I'm also near-certain he could get a starting job somewhere as a freshman.

Vanek, Spehar, Kor would be great bottom six additions, while Celski and Kohn could be great bottom pairing guys. Christopherson and Timmerman would be legitimate gets in my eyes. Idk what Wendt's role would be with Luca and Carter Casey set, but he's a stellar goaltender.

How it feels discussing gopher hockey on a Tuesday evening such as this

Good story on Luca and settling in after transferring. His .916% save percentage is still the third best in the B10 despite seeing a ridiculous 32.8 shots per game (the most shots faced per game in the B10). He’s single-handedly kept this team in a lot of games.

Carter Casey was named to the WHL Prospects game, a showcase of the best draft-eligible talent in the WHL. Another honor for the future Gopher goaltender.

This should surprise absolutely no one. Gopher football puts a good product on the field, Men's hockey is a staple, and Men's basketball on the rise with a new HC. Add in volleyball, Women's hockey, Women's basketball, and wrestling all doing well and that number makes sense.

This might be an all-time bad take. Fan support is a huge advantage, no matter the sport. Minimizing the crowd makes absolutely zero sense. Think about the Vikes, Gophers, Twins, Wild, Timberwolves, Lynx or Frost without their home crowds at full volume. It’s not nearly as fun.

Good chances again. 39 saves from Luca again (after 40 yesterday). Defense didn’t allow many scoring chances. Michigan State made virtually no mistakes all weekend. Augustine was excellent. Nothing new to add from yesterday. Wisconsin comes to town next weekend.

The power play continues to be absolutely white-hot. The Gophers are now down one again with 7 minutes to go.

I think John Whipple is continuing to get better too. He is one of the only two defensemen (Rombach being the other) with a positive plus/minus. He just keeps fighting, and despite still being a young sophomore he plays smart and doesn’t get into many bad situations.

The worst part of today has been that they haven’t even played that poorly. Don’t have the juice to keep up with the #2 team in the country with the best goalie in college hockey. Just a hard, hard year.

Luca gets the net once more and for the first time in 2026, the Minnesota Gophers will field an entire entirely healthy hockey team. Falloon, Begley, and Harris are the scratches.
