edsource.org
The statement aims to push policymakers to consider English learners’ needs and dispel the idea that English learners do not need to be taught phonics.

Now is the time to contact your legislature and advocate for the Alabama Literacy Act to include a good cause exemption for EL students that are still acquiring language skills, matching current research that states EL students need 5-7 years acquire language proficiency.
