Probably my last post on here, just to say my 2024 home mothing review is over on the other site @swaystevek.bsky.social (under the hashtag teammoth) and happy new year to those of you sticking it out on here.

The big Nabis capsiformis the clear highlight of a trap that produced just 10/5 last night. 5 were December Moths, and a single Rusty-dot Pearl the only @MigrantMothUK (are you on Bluesky yet Sean, will hopefully be moving permanently there soon)? Maybe tonight will be busier

Have stared at a lot of sea the last couple of days, with just occasional Gannets and gulls to show for it, so was nice to get a couple of close Balearic Shearwaters within sight of Cadiz.

More of the mess off Malaga now the tide has pushed it closer to shore. Mostly millions of papyrus-like canes. At one point a Bluethroat flew past low over it!!

Sooo much debris washed into the bay in Malaga by recent storms 😬

Mothing very samey of late, nothing new since 28/10 (5 attempts since then). 37 of 14 last night was a nice return though, with 1 Blair's Mocha the only possible @MigrantMothUK (5 D-b Moth & 1 R-d Pearl the previous night). Another late Hypsopygia glaucinalis.

Hyosopygia glaucinalis and an unidentified noctuid in within a minute of me turning on the light bodes well for tonight. Going to have to be an early start if I'm to get to the coast by the target time of 6.15

An excellent 32 of 22 last night. One NFY, one I'd long given up on: Buff Footman! Also late were September Thorn, Willow Beauty & Straw Dot. My 2nd Radford's Flame Shoulder (other @MigrantMothUK in ALT). Potentially best of all was the beetle Oedemera femoralis (details in ALT)

Feel free to block me @vc28wildlife but . . . Two more, that I'm thinking may be different species, but both Stigmella. Svenssoni and roborella respectively are my "guesses", but totally prepared to be utterly wrong. Determined to learn something before the year is out!

Hi @vc28wildlife , am I OK to assume these are Ectoedemia quiquella, three of many seen in the billions of fallen oak leaves I raked at work on Friday 😬 Would be a new 10km square if so (and quite possibly also if something else)
