Yet again, EtH's substitutions worked. Both Antony and Garnacho brought a different creativity and impetus when they came on, not visible from Weghorst nor Sancho. Fernandes too, then operating in a more central position, became more influential and was involved in both goals. 👍

Great game management by United! Altho' Newcastle took control in 2nd half, there's now an experienced spine at United - DDG, Varane, Martinez, Casemiro - so team never panicked and were always in position to counter. Ten Hag (again) made great substitutions to seal result. 👏🏆

So Manchester United have climbed to 2nd spot in the league following their home win. And before you all shout at me, I'm talking about the United Women's team that have just scored an excellent sixth goal and are thrashing Liverpool 6-0 with a few minutes to go! Congrats!👍

Great comeback win by United! Once again - and it seems I keep saying this every game - the substitutions by EtH had a massive impact towards the win. And let's not forget David de Gea! With WHU 1-0 up, his save from Antonio proved to be pivotal. At 2-0, it might've been over.

Great win by United. Not because it was pretty - it wasn't - but because they won at a hostile ground and against physical opponents who were being buoyed by the atmosphere. Also, great tweak by EtH bringing on Garnacho with Rash going thru' the middle and Weghorst falling to 10.

@FootballMissess The irony was Nani wasn't offside and also the ball was already over the line when he headed it! Portugal won 4-0 in Lisbon (2010). It was Spain's first defeat as World Champs. Match was part of the joint bid between Spain and Portugal for 2018 WC. Was quite a hard game at times!

Big week for United: for players, manager, fans, and for... the sports scientists and physios! Now is when they earn their pay! Whereas Newcastle have a week to prepare for the LC Final, United have a make-or-break game v Barça and just two days to recover, inc travel to London.

Big win also for Manchester United Women today. A hard-fought 2-1 away win at Tottenham takes Utd back to the top above Chesea, albeit with one more game played. Quite a nervy last 10 minutes too, as top midfielder Ella Toone was sent-off in the 80th min with a straight red card.

Good win v Leicester today. Usually, after a big game away in Europe - win or lose - players find it difficult to immediately pick up and maintain the required intensity for the next PL match. Thanx, DDG for immense saves, when Leic were on top, and Rash for coming thru. (Again)

Wow! Three sendings off in one min! Until then Utd were struggling to get into game. Fulham were clearly on top, and Utd had DDG to thank for still being in the cup. Again, EtH's subs worked, and Antony made a difference when he came on. His break set up the penalty chance. 👍

There are a couple of big games for United on Sunday. At 12:30pm, United Women host Leicester Women. A win will ensure United stay top of the table, regardless of the results elsewhere. Later, at 4.30pm, it's the turn of the men in the small matter at Anfield. Two wins please! 🙏

It's the big day on Sunday! And it's also a big decision for EtH and coaches: What to do with Weghorst? Does he go 9, where he's ineffective, or go 10, where he's better, but forces Bruno right? (Assuming Rash then goes 9.) I'd go: Rash Sancho Bruno Antony But I'm not EtH! 😅

Congrats to Man United Women reaching the FA Cup Final! They beat 3-2 in the semis! And what a game it was! United were 1-0 down at HT before Leah Galton and an absolute cracker from Alessia Russo made it 2-1. Brighton equalised, but Rachel Williams scored a great late winner!👏

Final score: Man United Women 5 Leicester Women 1 United goals: Russo (3), Galton, Garcia. This win puts United 4 points clear at the top of the table for now. Great performance from the team, especially in the second half. Player of the Match: Alessia Russo. (Who else!)

A 2nd half performance by Utd to warm everyone on a freezing night at OT. Then again, you'd need to have a stone cold heart not to have enjoyed Weghorst scoring his goal! He may be limited as a striker but he never stops working, never stops running and never hides. Congrats!👍

Interesting result in the WSL. Man City just beat Chelsea 2-0. This means United stay top on 38pts - after their 4-0 victory v WHU - Man City go 2nd, also 38pts, Chelsea 3rd one point behind (one game less), and Arsenal 3pts off top. Man City v Arsenal next week. All very tight!

Leeds game plan worked. They came flying out the traps and won individual battles everywhere on the pitch. E.g. Bruno got brushed off ball easily in minute 1, which led to the goal, and Garnacho was bullied by Ailing most of game. Expect even more intensity from Leeds on Sun.

Many fans are calling for United to appeal Case's red card. Altho' card was harsh - and VAR angle used was not the best - the danger is the PL could add another game to the suspension, if they feel United are wasting their time, meaning Case will miss the EL Final. Not worth it.

Here is my team for tonite. I've gone for a few changes, such as resting (Rash, Eriksen), returns (Casm, Dalot, Malacia - for whatever reason), game time/form build (Antony, Weghorst, Heaton?). But as it's an away SF, I expect strong team and not see Elanga nor Mainoo starting.

Five things we continued to learn from Utd today: 1. Rashford is more effective running into space off the left, not so much at CF as he can't play with back to goal and finds it difficult to get between or behind the lines. When he does get thru, he rushes his final shot. 1/3

I predicted last week, for the match v Nottm Forest, that Rashford would be on the bench, and Garnacho would start instead. I also said Heaton would keep his place - he had played in the previous LC round, remember - and de Gea would make way. Seems I was only out by a week!😅

Either through design or through circumstance, when Utd go to Anfield they're normally on the back foot. Only under LVG, when Mata scored two beauts, do I remember Utd surprising them by taking the game to them. Easier said than done, of course, but would be great to see again.

Ok, so not the revenge thrashing we desired on Brentford, for the defeat meted out last August, but it was still satisfying. And if our players had their shooting boots on - Antony, Bruno, et al - it could've been! Good to win - and score - after not doing it last three PL games!

@mrmichaelbarton That's right! Pogba, especially, was re-born and dominated midfield not seen since the halcyon days of Keano. And you could see on Wed night, v Spurs, the mere presence of Ronaldo on the bench was preventing Rashy from heading forwards in the six-yard-box or finding the target.

@ManUtdMania_ Champions League. Much too many times, United fell short during the glory Fergie years, be it through bad luck (Dortmund, Lerverkusen), bad officiating (Porto), or whatever. This occurred on a dozen or so times, which included QFs, SFs, and Finals. Should've won it more times.

When shown from a different angle (bottom of 1st pic above), you can see Casemiro did NOT have his hands on Hughes's throat. And on the clip, it clearly shows they're just pushing each other and end up hugging. In fact the 2nd picture above shows Ayew in a worse tangle with Fred!
