With the tragedies playing out around us, it’s easy to lose sight of the fact that there’s also a lot of good in this world. That good was on full display Tuesday at a reception the APS Education Foundation hosted for our Selfless Seniors, 14 amazing APS students.

In Nov. and Dec., members of our school board hosted community conversations at schools around the city to get input on what students should know and be able to do when they leave APS. Between those in-person forums and an online survey, we heard from 2,024 individuals.

You might agree there are few school days as energized as the Friday before winter break. We have worked hard to get here and are ready to take time off to rest, reflect, play, and unwind. I'm right there with you. https://t.co/9KteNunumc

We have always known that the people of Albuquerque care deeply about the quality of education for their children. We got confirmation over the past few weeks during several community conversations.

As I sit with loved ones at the dinner table this holiday season, I have so much to be thankful for. Among my many blessings, I count the APS family I have been fortunate to be a part of for over three decades. I am humbled and honored to serve as your superintendent.

Some of our principals are currently going through professional training to help them become "transformational change agents." These school leaders, many veteran educators, are being challenged to "rethink, reignite, and refocus" the way they run their schools.
